MONTAGforfiveone's 1988 Porsche 944 Spring 2005. Here is what the car looked like a couple of weeks ago. It pretty much looks this way now but is sitting at a shop waiting for parts. What prompted me to start repairing the car was that I got sponsors which help pay for the repair costs. The shop that is repairing it is even discounting their parts and labor since I told them I am going show the car.
I want to prepare the car for drag racing and tuner shows like NOPI. I have Blaupunkt as a sponsor and want to put in a cool stereo system. I have never done this before so if anyone has sugestions feel free... I promised to have the car ready by mid-August! MONTAGforfiveone's 1988 Porsche 944

July 14 2005. The Porsche has a new driver's side axle and anti-roll bar down links. I was told by a mechanic two years ago that it would need a clutch. It turned out the car only needed an axle. I was told that on 944's the driver's side inner CV joint destroys itself because of its proximity to the exhaust pipe. The heat drys out the boot, so for those with 944s reading this, check your driver's CV boot.
The car was also misfiring which turned out to be a plugged injector.
I have purchased a timing belt/water pump kit from 944online.com and gave it to the mechanic. It should be ready to go next week! MONTAGforfiveone's 1988 Porsche 944

July 20 2005. Here is the 944's new axle.

Here is the inner CV joint that goes bad because the exhaust is below it and dries out the boot.

The engine is getting new belts, water pump, pulleys, rotor and cap.

I bought the timing belt/water pump kit from 944online but my mechanic said that many of the engine seals were still good and did not need replacement. My mechanic also suggested a product called POR15 to paint the underside of the car to protect it and make it look good. He said it comes in different colors so I went online and ordered a catalog.
Here are some photos of the car at the garage.

Jan. 16 2006. I showed the Porsche alot last Summer and raced it once. The biggest shows last year were the Hot Import Nights show at the IX Center in Cleveland, Ohio and the Kumho Tire show at Norwalk Raceway in Norwalk, Ohio. Hot Import Nights lived up to its name. It was hot in the IX Center, no air conditioning! in August!

At the Kumho Tire show I took the Porsche down the strip for the first time and promptly f***ed-up the shift rod and one of the half-shafts, I think. All I know is after the run I could barely get into a gear and that something is vibrating in the rear end. I got too competitive and jumped the car off the line and damaged the 17-year old parts. Oh well, fix it again Fritz.

Here are a couple of photos of the car a day before the HIN show.

Sorry for the delayed response. The handling is amazing. With the CUP rack I can feel the road really well, but it's not hard to steer. The engine actually weighs only 70 lbs more than the factory 944 engine, and I removed 70lbs worth of fluff, so my weight change was less than 10 lbs. It's a blast!

You are doing a lot of work on that car. I think its like that untill it gets sorted out. Noticed you are from Avon Lake OH. I lived there when I was 3-4. 45 years ago. Check out my 944. I put new KYBs on the front - its a strong cheap improvement on the car. While I was at it I put in new front sway bar bushings. Will get to the rear shocks next season. Time to drive.
