Ressurection from '05
The Eagle has Flown! Sep. 30,2005.I finally drove the Aspen to the end of the road & back , about a mile. Not much , but a hint a the near future. Every day a little progress is made. She even made a 50km trip the other day................on the back of a trailer. All the way to the exhuast shop & back. But it was worth it, the new dual exhaust was installed. 2 1/2" with a cross pipe and dumped right before the diff.
When I got it home & backed it off the trailer it was running & sounded so good, I couldnt resist. I drove to the end of the road with no accelerator pump on the carb. It was a good reward, The last few weeks I have been so busy on the car. I had to put on a new master cylinder, replace a section of the aluminum fuel line, send the carb away again for an accelerator pump and freshen, run the rear brake lines, change the tranny fluid/ filter, change the oil/filter, top up all other fluids, replace my Accel Supercoil w/ a new one, plus Accel wies/cap/rotor, reinstall the seats/interior (no carpet/headliner yet), and a bunch of little odds & ends ......plus I also did the body work on the hood, finishing it in flat black, like a real Mopar.
Ready to Rumble...
Now I can Stop! Sep. 20,2005. Well, I have completed replacing the front brakes. I just installed new steel lines, new flex hoses, new calipers/pads,& new rotors/hubs to go along with the new wheel cylinders, lines, shoes ,etc. on the back. I just need to run a new steel line to the back and bleed them and it will be stoppable.
Front Brakes, BEFORE.....................& AFTER
Now It Runs!! Sep. 14,2005. The moment I have been looking forward to for 2 years has arrived, The demon awoke with a war cry from hell!
It took a little screwing around, She wouldnt fire at first. With the help of a freind I determined it was 180 degrees out of time, My Accel super coil seems to have given up the ghost, plus I cleaned green goo out of my freshly rebuilt carb (sigh). Poured in a little Sunoco Ultra 94 & she roared to life, sounds good too. So then she was able to drive out of her grassy bed. It looks alot better now that it is sitting in the driveway with an engine that runs!
OK, The Engine is in!! Sept. 03,2005: The summer has almost passed me by, with little work done on the Aspen, but yesterday I installed the new double row timing chain, cleaned and painted the engine and threw it back in the car!! Here is the engine about to go back in and back in the car, bolted to the tranny, ready to go! I will keep you posted, cant wait to hear the V8 rumble!!
