Hooker LT install on 93Z

This car had a set of well used Edelbrock TES headers, y-pipe and a single Dynomax race bullet muffler. Ran ok, but seemed to run out of breath at higher rpm's. techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro
techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Here are a few of the parts we gathered for the swap, we looked at running a y-pipe back into the 3" single, but really wanted to have "true duals". Since this car has a dual fuel system for spray, with all the attendant hoses, pumps and filters, runing it over the axle wasn't really an option. We looked at the late model Mustangs that have side exit exhaust, and decided to go that route, with dual cats, and 3" pipe.

techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Here is one of our "mufflers", it is a slip in style that goes in a header collector. We also added in cut-outs for the track (like this thing really needs them!!)

techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Another view of the muffler insert, this is the "3-disk" model, which is for street/strip, they also make a "2-disk" for track only. After hearing the 3-disk, the 2-disk must be about like nothing at all!! They don't seem to restrict flow at all...

techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro More of our parts, the cut-outs and the Hookers, with the o2 bungs installed (gotta stay legal!). We got a killer deal on the LT's, from a race shop that had them on their car for one pass. Already had the sensor bungs, EGT sensor plugs and the Jet Hot coating.

We started the project by jacking up the car, and pulling the old exhaust and headers. Since these cars are such a pain to work on, and the headers were pretty much junk, we used a sawzall to clearance them and got them out in pieces pretty quickly. The drivers side Hooker went in from underneath, only had to remove the oil pressure sender (be careful, they are plastic and break easy)

techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro The drivers side fit real well, and has good clearance, all the way around. They have better plug access than the old headers did, and look better also!!

techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Another view of the drivers side, looks good so far! The passenger side install went smooth also, just had to remove the starter, and reroute some of the wiring.

techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Here is our entire exhaust system, for the drivers side. Hi flow cat, the cut-out, the slip in muffler right after the cut-out, and the turn-out side exhaust. We ovaled the pipe on the side exits, to try and gain a little more ground clearance, and also dimpled the floor pan to let the cut-outs site higher.

techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Here is what it looks like on the car, the exhaust was pieced together from u-bends and stuff, no kinks here! You can see how the cut-out tucks up into the floor pan... still need to put some miles on it to see how it all clears, but right now we have about 5" at the lowest point.

techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Here is the oval side exit, right in front of the rear wheel opening, you can't call it quiet, but it sounds pretty damn good! And it rocks uncapped!!

techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Doesn't it look so much better without all the rust? Now for some detail work under the hood....I will put some updates on here once we get some track time...
laters!!!

techstuff's 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Here is another car with the Hooker's, this one with a y-pipe. You can see how hard it would be to find a spot for your cat(s), if you wanted to stay emissions legal... it's up to you and your local laws..
