86M2R's 1986 Toyota MR2

Summary And History of My Car

86M2R's 1986 Toyota MR2

What you see is a rebuilt in the making. this car was wrecked in 1996 I know because I wrecked it. My mom gave me the car for my 16th birthday, and I did what almost every teen would do when they get a sports car. I was a show off and wrecked the car (damage above). I could not afford the repair then, I was not even working yet. So my mom sold the car for a deal of around $800.00 as is but the buyer gave around $400.00 we agreed that he could take the car, but would not get pink slip until all monies was received. We never heard from him again and did not perused the buyer in attempts to collect. In 2000 my mom received a call from the police stating that they found an abandoned 86 Mr2 still registered to her. If she wants it come and get it or it will be sent to the junkyard. So we picked up my car. This is my second chance, Now I have to fix my car. Not very many people can say they sold a car and got it back. I plan to rebuild this car to better then it was before the crash, for Sentimental value of course.

When I shipped the car home from Pasadena CA, to San Diego CA, in July of 2004 the car had a very strong working engine that has not been driven in over 8yrs. It started right up with no oil change, no coolant, spark plug change, no nothing in 8yrs. Plus the car had four flat tires and body damage in the front and rear.

the small dent under side finder caused my struts to become un-aligned and poor cornering, my front left tie rod was bent and needed to be replaced, this caused my left tire to become glued to my front left door. So as you can see I have a very big job ahead. Now I am not a mechanic, but now Im willing to learn how to do my own work.

(07/21/2004) I first bought the tires; this is when the car started to look like a car again.
Then I fixed my tie rod and pulled my front left tire as close as I could get it to the front bumper. I could not bang out the dent. Maybe chasy or frame damage, so for now I can cover it up. And will have a body shop straighten it out for me.

(07/30/2004)I then got the side finder on and front left light. I covered the dent with the left fender. the only bad part is my car can not handle like it should until this dent is fixed. I then put on the front bumper.

i still have alot of work to do. i still don't have a rear bumper.

(08/05/2004-03/17/2005) I finally got to drive my car for 4 days then the engine finally blew out. Since I never worked on a car, i never new to change old oil and coolent. So I had buy an 86 mr2 engine for about $800.00 got it installed. More engine pics coming soon to page 3.

I love cars that have a story. I actually used to own an AW11 myself and loved it. Good luck with the project and keep us updated! I'd like to invite you to join my Old-School Japan Group which is a new section in CarDomain at http://groups.cardomain.com/groups/10029/pages/10040.
