I have replaced everything that came stock in this car. Let's start up front.

SPEAKERS
****************************************

I have Pioneer 4X6 plates in the dash! I’m very pleased with them. They have produced much better sound then the 4X6 speakers I had prior.

Well, I'm sure you noticed the door speakers...

Nope, not 6X9's, but 2 way 5-1/4 Pioneers. Why 6X9 covers? Well, I converted from manual locks and windows and had to cover the crank. Pretty sneaky, eh?

The real Pioneer 3 way 6X9s are in the rear sail panels.

While we are discussing the sound system...here's the new custom sub box I built in a weekend for the bass makers:
Here are the new subs and amp that will be fitted in the car soon!

This box is a half way point to my final sub system. The bottom of the box is complete. It has been built wide and shallow so as to allow for my tools to be placed in the lower part of the trunk. There has been some debate as to how to finish the top of the box... I'm thinking something dome like with the subs, then a cool lighted center piece, either bird or Pontiac related...
Under the sub box... I mentioned the tool box!

The box rests across on the shelves to either side of the trunk well.

I sill have to get my new 12s and then build a fiberglass top. The new top will be buldged upward in the speaker areas to allow for more cubic inches in the box. Thusly, the subs will no longer be inverted at that time. They are inverted now to allow for more cubic inches w/in the box, also they are just a bit to deep to fit in the box... LOL! The box will be painted gloss black. The speakers will be aimed more rearward once again!

The new speakers are on the way... I already got the amp for it! Going to leave them inverted for a bit while I plan my final box design, but I will paint the box gloss black in the interum!

AMPLIFIERS
****************************************

On my USAcoustic 50X4 watt amp, the front channels are run parallel. That powers my Pioneer front door 5 1/4s and dash 4X6 plates. Since this would put out 50 watts per speaker, and that is a bit more then they are rated for, I have turned down the gain slightly so as not to over power them. The 6X9s in the sail panels are powered by the rear channel, they are also seeing the 50 watts per channel. That is just right for them. The amp is set to full pass, but I ahve purchased inline RCA capacitors to protect the speakers from any notes outside of their power range!

But I just got my Lanzar amp in to strictly power the subs... its mounted on the box for now, but all the amps are going to be moved to the back of the seats!

WIRING
****************************************

Power comes in via a 4 gauge wire from my Optima red top Battery... This is in the process of going to the rear of the car!

RedraifExtras's 1987 Pontiac Firebird

The 4-gauge wire is split via a distribution block.

There 2 8-gauge wires run to my amps. To be sure I had as little issues as possible, I ran the power wires down the driver’s side and the RCA signal wires down the center and the speaker wires down the passenger side. The install came out clean and I did not have to use any signal suppression devices to reduce engine/alternator whine!

The whole thing is controlled via my Alpine Din 1/2 head unit & my Sony CD Changer!

I have everything turned on by the remote turn on lead run thru a relay, so as not to fire the headunits curcuit!

SOUNDPROOFING
****************************************

This stereo system was designed/installed by me from the ground up. I built the box for the 12in subs, installed the speakers, amps, and ran all the lines. Though probably the most important stereo upgrade I did was to sound proof the entire car. You would be amazed how much noise from the outside will ruin your stereo enjoyment. Plus the buzzing that bare metal produces can really block the true notes coming from your sound system, esp with a decent amount of bass! So before you know it you have the stereo maxed out to drown out the ambient noises. Then you have to yell at anyone else in the car to talk. But with the car soundproofed that is no longer a problem for me!

I used a combination of Dynamat,
