UPDATE... This summer I did a whole lotta work on the camaro got the hood starting to look like something and finally just broke the bank and bought new quarter panels
Angle shot from the back of the hood
Angle shot of the front of the hood
Hood with louvers set in (Yeah I know they are broken)
Quarter panel cut out on drivers side
Quarter panel on passenger side
This is the next project, a 69 chevelle I bought off my buddy for 500 bucks Canadian. He smashed his truck and this was his abandoned project. There are brand new quarters sitting in the car, and a center console and a few other fairly valuable parts. He took the 4 bolt 350, but I'd still say I got a decent deal. Now to finish the camaro so I can save this car.
This is my 85 z28 camaro...From the factory the car was maroon and gold with power windows, locks, ac and cruise control... Cruise currently isn't working (not like I would use it if it did but nice to have everything working) and my a/c pump is needing to be replaced... also my heater bearings are gone so I get a horrible squeeling noise (more crap to fix).
The reason I got an 85 z is because I wanted a 5 speed manual, with a carb setup (screw fuel inject I'm too lazy to learn and parts are expensive) and I also wanted the advantage of power windows and such... The car is everything I wanted except for the 30 dents it came with... (some say I paid too much, then again some can go to hell because I am saving by doing all the work myself) The car has a 3 core radiator because the stock radiator cracked one day... other than that and the battery the car has not failed me... mechanically sound and still looked alright with the dents (if you don't pay attention)
Here are pictures of my car before I started the work:
It is in the middle of being fixed up (body, and subframe connectors (gunna make em) first,2nd engine, exhaust and driveline upgrades,3rd interior, last stereo and other expensive crap) I have a 400 sbc chev that I am planning to build with 10.5 or 11:1 compression using a set of stock heads (maybe not the 882s in the pics if they are cracked) ported with 2.02 intake valves... I plan on running stock crank and rods because it will be my first engine build... (if I knew more I would build a long rod with 5.7 inch rods)
With the 400 I am hoping to run a holley carb (yeah yeah but I don't like edelbrocks and q jets.. and I like to play with stuff so holley it is) and a fairly hot cam (not sure on intake manifold)
I am also hoping to run true duel exhaust without following the stock route or cutting the pipes off at the wheel wells... I plan on doing so by making some minor suspension mods such as shortening the panhard bar to make room for the pipes... I will probably do this when I upgrade to a 9 inch... (don't you dare tell me 12 bolt is better... 9 inch is one of the few good things ford ever made)
Bagged 305 that has seen 9000rpm clutch dumps (maybe not but it was wayyyyy over the red)
the 400 showing its bores
400 with a head on the deck
Cowl hood I did myself with a friend 3 inch rise in middle 2.5 on the sides overhang of about 2 inches I think (don't remember) The holes in the side will be filled in with sheet metal and the entire thing thing smoothed out with a little bit of bondo.... Also I am planning on making a mould of it just in case I smash the car up so my hours of time don't get wasted.. Also so if some poor sucker wants to buy one I can make one... (If you care I am the one on the left... the other guy is one of my friends and he looks like a pissed off gopher in that picture)
Another angle
Yet Another angle
One last angle
Interior One day gunna be all black with leather seats, roll bar and harnesses in front
Passenger side with a layer of surfacer (you can tell it needs more) also need to do rust work on this side of the car
I will try to take as many pictures as I can along the way (should a taken more in the early stages) and I will try to get some before pictures up...
Just another note, I've gotta give credit where due and I forgot to mention something in this page.
None of this would be possible without Greg. He has the knowhow and is teachin me what I need to know. Thanks buddy.
