Covers

To create the covers for the amplifiers on the trunk, I made a pre-assembly, with most of the components on their place. Only this way I could perfectly match everything together...

After that, some dummies cutted out from cardboard boxes, were made and tested on their place.

When the shape, dimensions and place for the windows were correct, I started to transform my cardboard dummies into 10mm MDF board covers. First of them the central one, which covers the subwoofer box. It has a circular cut in the middle to show the beautyful DLS grille and it is shaped to fit into the trunk and the other covers...

The same work was done for the side covers, from the cardboard to the MDF Board. When the windows are traced, before starting the cut, a hole is drilled to let the saw getting started...

Both sides of the trunk are also covered with MDF covers, a support one, made of 19mm board, milled for cable driving, and a 5mm thick one, for external finishing. Here we see the process from the cardboard to the MDF Board...

Finally the cover for the vertical support, it is also made of a 10mm MDF Board. Some trials were made with the cardboard dummies, first to match the external shape, second to center and dimension the window, and then to translate the final cuts to the MDF Board...

Before making the definitive cuts, some elements of the structure were screwed together...

...and then, after some drills close to the corners of the windows, I started cutting them...

...some tests on the car were made to fix the last problems...

And this is how it looked like after this fase of the work was finished, not bad and close to the first project, doesn't it? It also made me decide that the color for the leather is going to be changed into beige, to match the interior of my car, and not black anymore...
