-Remote Controls

At this moment of the project I am working on refining some functional, ergonomic and aesthetic details, such as Remote Controls integration.
First of them, a general one to operate the main functions as volume, switching and track changing, from the driver's seat.

The first (and scary) operation it was to remove the airbag, to be modified...

...then draw the silohuette of the remote control to be cutted out...

...after that, I cutted out the plastic cover of the airbag. It is important to be very careful to avoid damaging the airbag itself with the cutter. As soon as possible, I introduced some cardboard under the hole I was cutting to protect the airbag fabric.

Using the remote itself and a couple of business cards y prepared the shape to be created with plaster.

I created a new support underneath the remote control, using a shaped aluminium bar.

Then cutted out also the hole for the volume control, originally in the back of the remote control

I had also to move away from the original position both the IR leds, that now are integrated in the back of the steering wheel facing the receiver, and the volume control switches.

Finally the concluded and modified airbag support was upholstered using a vinyle matching the original finishing.

And then, after integrating the remote control in the steering wheel it looks like this...
