Midranges Install

To get the best results from dome midranges I had to modify the dashboard to integrate them on the correct place. They must be placed horizontally on top of the dasboard, located on the right and left extremes, close to the listeners, and sligthly rotated towards the inside of the car and the side windows.
The height for the soundstage is given by the reflexion on the windscreen at listener's eyes height and soundstage width, by the reflexion on the side windows. Really wide and high, believe me...
It was a quite hard work to make room for the mids, that are 3" domes, but almost 5" outside (12,5cm)...
...but not as hard and long as I espected before starting over.

Theese are the basketball shaped midranges. First of all I removed the drilled metal plate grille, living in place only the plastic part and thes removed also the original wiring they took...

And now lets get started with the right one... first of all, some trials were made and some mesures were taken to place the speaker on its correct position, and simmetric with the one on the other side.

A "surgical cut" is made only to separe the skin from the foam and the plastic soul of the dasboard. It is important to keep the skin in order to use it later to give shape to the surrounding of the driver, and integrate it perfectly into it.

A thin aluminium plate, shaped in a circle, was used to keep the skin open wide and separed, just like in a surgical operation.

Now we can start drilling the dashboard in a really safe way, knowing exactly what we are doing. A special 90 electric drilling machine was used for this operation, the other option it was to take the windscreen away and to drill with a classic drilling machine.

The air exhaust was modified and a little cutted away, using a normal Dremel Moto-Tool with a cutting disc.

When drilling was concluded, the mid was located inside and fixed firmly with four screws.

The left one was worked out the same way...

Alter that both midranges were wired the usual way, using snake skin protected wires, some termic coloured tubes, fast-ons and silver welding to improve connection with the best coductivity

It seems that everything matches...

...and now it is time to re-build the air grilles that we had to remove...

After cutting out the shape of the mid...
