HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN CLEAR PARK/TURN LIGHTS
- From under your car, press the tab and turn the socket & bulb and remove from light houseing.
- Remove both bolts holding houseing to bumper.
- **Remember during the process, not to forget about the lens side angles,,(see 3rd diagram)** So while both light housings are out, note the angles on the factory clear lens.
- (See 1st diagram) Cut off the front lens,,,(along the red line). I used a Dremel tool with a cuting disc, !!DO NOT CUT ANY OF THE BLACK HOUSEING!!.
- (See 2nd diagram) Pry out the amber defuser lens.
- Use a belt sander to sand off the rest of the front lens, making sure you leave the edge perfectly flat so you can mate the plexy glass to it. (!!Carefully again, not to take off any of the black housing!!)
- Wash them out with a little dish soap, carefully not to scratch the plastic chrome plateing.
- Cheak the condition of the factory plastic chrome plateing inside the houseing. Luckily mine was not too bad, so I used my old lights. If the chrome has a lot of black spots, you may want to get brand new or better looking used lights to work on,,but use the old ones to practice.
- Cut two pieces of plexy glass a bit bigger then the black houseings. I used 1/4 inch thick plexy. But the thicker the glass the more you'll have to re-create the angles the stock lens had.
- Mix some two part apoxy on a old board with a coffee stick or something. Put a good thin layer of apoxy ONLY on the black housing, where the plexy would meet.
- With the plexy glass flat on the table put the housing down on the plexy. (Don't let it slide around) If you can without it moving around, weight down the houseing with something to ensure a good seal.
- (See 3rd diagram) After apoxy dries for a day, trim off edge with a belt sander or grinder. Here you'll want to re-create those factory angles that the old lens had. If not you will have big gaps when you install them or they won't fit in the bumper holes at all.
- (See 4th diagram) Then tape off the clear part of the new lens with good quality masking tape. Paint over the apoxy showing areas....with color match paint for your car, or use flat or satin black.
- Remove masking tape. Install lens back on the car. You can also change out the old bulbs for color ones. These dual filament bulbs are available in a few different colors. I removed the amber ones for blue ones (As seen below).
