How to build a fiberglass subwoofer enclosure

-Day 1 (3/13/02) Left: First I washed all the plastic down with acetone to get any protectant off so the masking tape will stick. I masked off the rest of the car. Notice how I keep up the hatch (my shocks are toast, so if it ain't duct tape is got to be V.G.'s.) Right: I cut and formed temp. plates out of cardboard and used them as a wall so that the sub. box can be slid out at any time without jamming in there.

-Day 2 (3/15/02) Left: I lined the trunk with tinfoil with a bit of masking tape to hold it up. Starting at the bottom then working up like shingles. (The fiberglass won't stick to the tinfoil) Then it gets sprayed with glue so the mat will stick. Right: trunk then lined with fiberglass cloth. Now I mixed the clear resin and brushed it out (the red line is there to remind me how high up the box will go,,,do not use any fiberglass above the line.)

-Day 3 (3/17/02) Left: Once you get one or two coats of mating and resin and it dryes you got a good base. Now you can go and spread some kitty hair fiberglass in there. (With this stuff you dont need to use mating with it). After leting the mold dry I lifted it out of the trunk to work on it. Right: Installed a divider,,sealed it with fierglass. I patched up some thin spots and coated the whole outside of it with more clear fiberglass resin,,,,then I cut the top cover to fit the fiberglass box,,,then you take the extra mat above the red line to fold over on top of the board.

-Day 4 (3/18/02) Left: The coverboard was screwed and fiberglassed to the box. I sprayed the inside with thick black undercoating. The top of the box is not going to be seen once I put on the faceplate I made. Right: The finished product, without the faceplate.

w/Faceplate - I made mine with some thin plywood, black vinal, 1/4" foam and a staple gun.

-Heres how I had to wire up a aftermarket deck to mom and dads '97 Camary, that had a factory external amp. (before and after)
