PRO 5.0 Hi-Performance Shifter Install
(Check out their web site @ Pro50.com)

jcurrieirocz's 1987 Chevrolet Camaro

Heres my new shifter that I got from "Pro50.com". This shifter kicks ass compared to any other shifter on the market today,,,,just look at that billet machined construction, they also have a patent on there design so nobody can make 'em like they can! After I installed it and tryed it out and I fell in love with it right away! I now have shorter shifts and NOT at all sloppy like the stock 15 year old shifter was. I highly highly recommend you get one for your Camaro, Firebird or Mustang.

"Installing a PRO-5.0 shifter on a T5 tranny in a '87 IROC-Z"

*Before you do this install make sure your car is out of gear and your hand break is applied.

1. Remove 4 torx screws to remove the stereo plate. Unscrew the shift knob. Next remove 6 torx screws to remove shift plate. Remove one star screw and slide off hand break handle.

2. To remove upper console, remove the two 7mm bolts from close to the heater contols and the two 10mm bolts inside the glove box.

3. If your car has power windows or power hatch release you must carefully remove the plugins from the underside of the upper console. You may have to fight with it to get it up and over the hand break.

4. Remove one 10mm bolt from the lower console brace right behind the shifter. Then remove seven 10mm bolts from the shifter boot (You will have a problem getting at the two left side bolts shown in step #5).

5. To reach the left side bolts I had to pull the bottom of the lower console out with my fingers and jam something inbetween the console and the floor (I used the ashtray). Then slide the boot up and over shifter.

6. Remove the four 13mm bolts from the shifter base. Then you can just lift up to remove the shifter out,,,but some different trannys you may have to put the knob back on to get some leverage to pull up good and hard.

7. Put some paper towel inside so you can chisel off the old silicone.

8. Pull the paper towel out slowly makeing sure any debris doesn't fall inside tranny case. Now apply some new silicone or RTV sealant to the tanny case.

9. Put a bit of grease on the shifter ball that goes into the tranny. Then bolt the new PRO-5.0 shifter with the new 13mm bolts that PRO-5.0 sends with the shifter. Tighten in a cross-pattern, DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN and break off a bolt! Back the two stop bolts in as far as you can and set the nuts off to the side.

10. Put the shifter boot back over the shifter and replace a bolt on the top and on the bottom. Now very carefully take a sharp knife and cut the boot smaller then the top part of the shifter base. Cut the hole smaller at first then try to slide it over the shifter base, you can always cut a bit more off but make sure you dont cut too much off, you want it to be SNUG as possable after you push it over the lip. I then removed the boot and used some silicone on the floor then re-installed the boot with all the bolts and you can put the brace bolt back in too.

11. Now you can set the stops and replace the nuts you took off. To set the stops PRO-5.0 says to put it in 2nd gear and hold,,,turn the bolt out till it hits the shifter then back off one turn then tighten the nut. Then do the same for the 1st gear.

12. Now install the upper console and the stereo plate. Slide the stock rubber with the shift plate over the shifter. Screw on knob. Now while pushing up on the rubber to set where you want your boot to sit, mark at the bottom of the rubber on the shifter with a marker.

13. Remove knob and use tape or a hose clamp to hold to the shifter so the rubber & boot won't slide down. I used some clear hockey tape.

14. I dont like my boot right up to the knob so I left it down a bit. Then put the torx screws back into the shift plate, and your done!

15. Take it for a drive, NOW!
I hope you enjoy your new shifter!

Here is a side by side shot of the Pro5.0 shifter and the stock one.
