This is my 78 NY'er I bought in OCtober of 04. Residing between the fenders of this beast is a 400ci big block that I have done quite a bit of work to. I rebuilt the motor. That process consisted of having the heads (452 casting)rebuilt with a 3-angle valve job, new seals and guides, hardened seats, and the valves machined.

I also installed a Mopar Pefomance 3-bolt Purpleshaft cam. The same grind as was used in the 69-71 440 six-pack. With this went new lifters, pushrods, and a CompCams double-roller timing gear set.
Rounding out the top end is an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold with an Edelbrock 1411 750cfm carb.
The bottom half got paid the same amount of attention with a Mopar Performance windage tray and high volume oil pump.
I kept the original exhaust manifolds because of the scarcity and the price of C-body headers. Which, in the long run, will probably prove a better choice because of the durability. The dual exhaust is a 2-1/4" system with SummitRacing Turbo-Flow mufflers (incredibly good sound for $18.00 each) and turndown tips, all installed by a local shop.
All of the motor work with the exception of the heads was done by me. The prep-work, disassembly, cleaning, painting, parts installation, reassembly and reinstallation were all done in my garage.
The transmission is a 727-torqueflight. Since this car only has 70,000 miles on it and the transmission shifts like it's brand new, I felt no need to remove or do anything to it.
In the back is a Chrysler 8.25" rear axle with 2.76:1 gears. (talk about a highway gear!)
Lots more pictures to come!

Great looking NYB. I'm looking forward to seeing more photos. I've got 2 76 NYBs, and never get tired of looking at them. I wish I had your skills under the hood. Thankfully, they have been very dependable requiring very little attention under the hood. Dennis

Is there a way to bybass the Lean Burn system on this car? It looks like you might have done so since I see a new filter on there. I'm not sure if my 77' New Yorker will run right unless I keep that system on the stock air box. Please let me know? just email barginman282@yahoo.com Thank's !!

I envy your engine compartment!!! I have a number of 74-75 IMPS and 76-78 NYB's. By the way, your car has a 9.25 rear end. Henry
