1979 REGAL/455 BUICKI built this car with one thing in mind. After not having any type of performance car in quite a few years I wanted a street/strip car with something beside a Chevy motor in it.My best friend has a sweet 72 Chevy Nova and my other Buddy races a bracket big block 75 Nova. Now Chevy motor are the best of the best in the GM family and they have an endless supply of aftermarket parts but I wanted something that wasn't seen as much and over the years how many under-hood Chevy motors have you seen. It's like[OH NO]another small block chevy in a car.Well anyway take a look at something beside a Chevy motor in a G-body car. This is the original look of the car in 1997 when this project first got on the way.It has been a on going 6 year project as you see it now.The finished look.It started as a Michigan basket case.Someone tried to rebuild the original V6 thru the oilpan and gave up.The back window was broken out.Looked like someone had lived in it.The interior was totally trashed. The doors flapped in the breeze. It was sitting in a gravel lot at a Mom and Pop antique store. This style of car[G-body]had a factory defect in which moisture would sit in the rear frame horns and that would rust out and the bumper would drop. This car if it had seen one more Michigan winter would have meet the same fate. The original price was $150. dollars and I talked them down to $100.WHAT A DEAL.A general view of it looks like a nice looking Regal but you can hear it coming up the road. The 455 thumps out through a set of 2 inch headers/3 inch X-pipe exhaust and 3 chamber flowmasters with 3inch tailpipesThe exterior is a clearcoat/basecoat of the original 1970 Buick color of Stratomist Silver.Although it,s not able to be seen in this picture, there is a spoon or two of mini metal flake in the basecoat. The clearcoat has a amount of clear pearl added to it also.Under the lights of a parking lot the car draws attention.Rust free doors and the turbo hood was brought in from California. The car was stripped of the factory butt poor lite blue paint.Block and sanded to a ripple free exterior than sprayed. All the plastic chrome and the bumpers were pianted to match the car.It a nice look but I did it because the chrome was shot and none could be found in good shape in my area. The headlight covers are custom made and the inside has a oneway mirror film on them.A silver BUICK MOTORSPORT decal is in the middle of the windshield.Theres a small tie tac emblem on each side of the front fenders that say 455.Don,t want to advertise too much.Grand Sport emblem are behind the rear side windows. There was never a Gran Sport model for this car BUT if there was.The grill has a LIMITED EDITION emblem with a 455 under it.The Buick motto on the door handles.
This is what the original under the hood looked like with a lot of road miles and the V6 somewhere in there. The new look of a 455 stuff under the hood now.The dual snorkle air cleaner come from a 80 full size 454 Chevy truck. The snorkles are runned thru the body at were the batteries would be mounted in the front corners. They are than attached to 4inch galvanize heating elbow with homemade sheetmetal air scoop hanging down below the front bumper. The 455 creates so much underhood heat that the carb developed a stumble coming of idle.Inside the air cleaner housing is a K&N air filter. If anyones interested in the ins & outs of this swap information can begotten at this web forum.I'm the moderator of the[REGALS with extra cyclinders]area. All we talk about is how to do this swap.If your a Buick fan this is also a good forum for everything BUICK.Check outhttp://www.v8buick.com.New engine update pics coming
