New addition: suspesion mods and fuel tuning hardware!

Engine/Performance Modification Pictures

Engine Pictures

Here are some shots of the current engine bay. I had to heat wrap the down pipe and crossover pipe to stay away from melting wires. I had a bunch of heat wrap left so i decided to heat wrap the intake pipe in an attempt to keep heat out.

Boost Mods

The BOV is a 1st gen Eclipse blow off valve. It is supposed to be a very good BOV and can be bought for very cheap. If I remember correctly I bought it for about 25 dollars. It has worked very well so far and you can hear it release air pretty well. I would like it to be just a bit louder but I have no complaints with it.

The wastegate I'm using is a Turbonetics Deltagate Mark III. It has a 7 pound spring right now so it should be boosting around 7 psi. Instead of returning the exhaust to the down pipe I used a dump pipe that came with it. Its pretty loud but not annoying.

Ignition Mods

To get a more powerful spark I got a MSD 6AL ignition unit (many thanks to John @ J&H Racing for that!) I can definately tell there is more spark power. I was messing with the spark plugs when the distributor was out to make sure it was firing correctly and the spark was a bit weak looking and had little popping sounds. I hooked this up and immediatly saw great, powerful, blue flashes coming from the spark plugs and it was loud! I was very impressed and I highly recommend this thing for anyone that can use it!

Fuel Control/Tuning

At the moment I'm using the stock Maxima ecu but running the vg30et's injectors. They are 259cc compared to the Maxima's 180cc. I bought the Apexi S-AFC II in hopes to control the injectors. It seems to do a pretty good job but my car still seems to run rich so I have a few more bugs to get out of the system.

I purchased a PLX Devices M-500 wideband o2 sensor controller in hopes of gaining more power and better gas mileage (a definite must with the terrible gas prices these days). This nifty little unit will give you a very precise air/fuel ratio and on top of that will log your a/f ratio AND 5 other inputs!! This isn't like your a/f gauge that has the neat LED lightshow lights or a simple voltage reader. This thing will give you the exact a/f ratio in plain old numbers. Say you're boosted, like me, and want to get a air/fuel ratio of 12.5:1 for maximum power and safety. This thing will tell you exactly when you hit 12.5 when you have it tune correctly. If you buy the datalogging version you can have you laptop record everything so you can review it at a later time. This unit may be pricey, coming in at $509 after shipping, but is definitely worth the money. Check out www.plxdevices.com for more info on the M-500 and their other products.

Sorry for the low quality pictures. I'm not sure why my camera was acting up. Hopefully I can get some better ones once it is installed.

Drivetrain Mods

I bought a SPEC Stage 3 clutch which came with a heavy duty pressure plate and a 4-puck sprung hub race disc. Its the 84-86 300ZX Turbo version so this kit will handle 515 ft. lb. or torque! The only difference between the 300ZX clutch kit and the Maxima clutch kit is the throwout bearing contents wise. The exact same Maxima clutch kit costs a bit more (Maxima - 349.95, 84-86 300ZX Turbo - 319.95) and it doesn't hold as much torque (Maxima - 469 ft. lb., 84-86 300ZX Turbo - 515 ft. lb.) I just used the Maxima's throwout bearing and is working fine. I got the kit from Nippon Power which I really recommend. Nippon Power has very good customer service and good prices.

I also bought a Fidanza lightened flywheel. I bought it used so that is why it looks the way it does.

Suspension Mods

I finally got around to getting some suspension modifications. I recently bought Eibach Pro-Kit springs. I'm going for the highest performance I can with everything I put on my car so I got the Eibachs. They are supposed to have the highest spring rate of any springs offered for the 3rd gen Maxima which is what I'm looking for. Next I will need to upgrade my struts and I'm definitely going with Koni's as they are the best that can be bought for the 3rd gen.
