I wanted to do this update since I began the 99-01 headlight modification, but I did the Gen I installation instructions for Bruce at Omnitec for the 95-98 E38s on my old 98 headlights. On problem is that this LED based kit was not bright enough to satisfy me. I want the look I see on the E39's around town!!

I saw a post from a guy named Levi offering the BMW E39's Original Equipment Rings with the fiber optic cables from the E39s on the E38 forum, and so I contacted him and got a set. These rings have much better manufacturing quality, with really sharp slots on the back and are very transparent, vs the rings from Omnitec which had somewhat poorly defined slots on the back and had some distortion in the plastic body of the rings. The E65 have these rings too and they use a 10Watt Halogen bulb as the light source. Dave K bought a set to try to retrofit to the E38 but ran into a roadblock when he found there is not enough room to mount these rings and fiber cable connections without cutting away some of the reflectors and he did not want to do this. He offered the bulbs to me to try my hand at it. They arrived today (April 22, 2002) and I am dying to tear into my headlights right away!
