UPDATED 03-18-03: Titanium dual filament bulbs found for the 95-98 E38s front turn signal lights.
These look better to me and they were pretty cheap so I swapped out the home made ones for these titanium bulbs.
DIY SilverVision bulbs for the 95-98 front turn signals.
Here is the DIY SilverVisions write up from before:
When I did my upgrade to clear lenses (both the 95-98 style and the 99-01 style after my DIY upgrade) I did not like the way the amber bulbs looked inside the clear lenses, this look is like an egg yolk sitting in the field of white. It ruins the clear lens look to my eye. I noticed this on the fronts and the rears after the clear lenses were installed. I read about the Philips bulbs called SilverVisions which were coated with a reflectice material that is translucent so that the colored glass light still appears in its original color, but when they are not lit, they look like chrome. Very cool, and I loved the look when I got a pair for the rears, but here is the bad news, the front lights on the 95-98 E38s require the dual filament bulbs and Philips doesn't make the SilverVisions in this type. One day I was lurking on the E39 forum, and I read a post from one of the members there about this trick to make your own silver turn signal bulbs. So I went out and bought some DULIP-COLOR engine enamel paint in Aluminum color from my local auto parts shop. I "misted" the bulbs and Voila!
The idea is to mist the bulbs very lightly with high temp silver/alum paint. High temp will stand the heat of the bulbs and not burn or discolor. The trick is to mist on the paint so that when you look really closely, the amber glass still shows through the paint. It looks like millions of little dots on the amber glass.
It is easy and cost lots less than the chromed Philips SilverVisions bulbs

patrick,
If you read my DIY project pages, you can see that I chose not to go to the expense of chaning the fenders but you can do that and many people did. I made a filler from the old 98 style turn signal lense and painted it body panel color. In my case, becasue they were black, this was not easy to see and the effect turned out great.
