I'm working on a 1994 Volvo 850 T5R with ~ 126,000 miles under its belt. I've installed an IPD chip and cat-back exhaust. The 5 cylinder engine and turbocharger are in excelent condition, HP to the wheels is very close to 290@5500. Torque is 304ft/lbs@5500.
Unfortunately, the car has an automatic transmission - It's extremely hard to find an 850R, and even harder to find one in the US with a manual transmission. Thankfully, the automatic transmission has a "sport" mode, which shifts fairly aggressively, redlining @ 6000.
As far as performance mods go, I'm going to install a new cam, a new down pipe, and a big-bore throttle body. This car's performance mods are all done with stealth in mind. I'm not interested in fart pipes and bolt on wings.
The 850 came equipt with Volvo's "Premium speaker system" - two (almost) 6*9s on the rear deck, (2) 5 1/4s in the rear doors, (2) (almost) 5 1/4s in the front doors, and (2) 2 1/4 tweeters on the dash.
All the speakers are paper. Amazingly enough, none of them were damaged when I purchased the vehicle. I've never heard paper speakers sound so good. However, they are paper, and paper sounds bad. They lasted less then 4 weeks, till I replaced the front 5 1/4s with Cerwin-Vega IT 5.25 componets, ripped
The rear deck speakers are gone. The four inch ports into the trunk are perfect cantidates for a custom ported sub enclosure, so I decided to forget about rear deck speakers for the time being.
If anyone has any suggestions, e-mail me.
I have (2) Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1Ds on the way and (2) Lanzar Vibrant 1500Ds are here, waiting to fill the trunk. I've decided to use the 4in holes in the rear deck as ports for the subs, instead of trying to fit a 6.5 in the same location. I'll post more pictures of my car soon...
