This is my 1991 Mazda MX-5 Miata that I bought it totally stock in 1995. It's a great rear-wheel-drive convertible, that I enjoyed for many years with only minimal mods. In 2000 I got tired of being outrun by Minivans ;), so I decided that it was time to for it shed it's girly car attitude.
The first turbo system that I tried was a BEGI4.2 turbo from Flyin' Miata. It was good for 180rwhp and 160tq. Lots of fun until you start wanting MORE POWER! I upgraded to a full FMII turbo system (when I could afford it) uping the power to 220rwhp and 200tq!! All from a 1.6L motor. Going from there, the motor's bottom end was built and the T28 was swapped for a T3, now giving 240rwhp/240tq!! Awesomely fast and great spoolup, considering it was a T3. Unfortunately the 1.6 let go at the track, so I've moved to a 1.8L with a T3/T04B that you see below. Still lots of power, but tuned for durability and reliability. I drove with the T04B for a while and decided that although the topend was great, I would like quicker spoolup.
So the latest setup I've got on the car is...
A T3Super60, HKS Intercooler, controlled by a Electromotive TEC3.
Full upgraded suspension, Brakes, ACT clutch, Toda Flywheel, Torsen diff, Forged 11.5lbs rims, plus a whole lot more.
Custom House of Kolor Paint job over a Bodykit
and a few other details to round it out.
Have a look at the pix, and you'll see more details. Thanks for stopping by the site, Cheers.
Last Dynojet numbers were 260rwhp/252tq @14psi. Stock 1.8L BP is approx. 115rwhp. Very strong and quick spooling over 4Krpm, very streetable, conservative tune. Maybe I'll try out a GT28RS or GT30R next year.
