This DJ5a Postal Jeep (2wd) originaly had the Chevrolet 153 in-line four cylinder engine along with the PowerGlide 2 speed automatic transmission. The worn-out four cylinder was replaced by a 283 Chevy V8 of the same vintage. The PowerGlide was retained. All of the fabrication to get the V8 in place and the alterations to the body were done by me at home in my two car garage. Its amazing what you can do with some sheet metal and a wire welder! An aluminum BeCool radiator with an electric fan keeps the 283 cool.
The color is "Panther Pink", a color from the 70's Dodge and Plymouth cars. Let's just say that I never have trouble finding the Jeep in a crowded parking lot! :) This project will never be "finished", there will always be some little alteration or improvment that can be done but I am always content with it at each stage. The next task is the installation of a sport bar and the white Bestop bikini top. (Ebay IS wonderful shopping center!) The blue seats (one shown installed) are from a Ford Tempo. Nice fit, wrong color, seat covers will fix that. Interior finish and some tunes are in the long term plan as well, but for now we cruise to the music from the 4.6 litres of Chevy V8 through dual exhaust pipes. Ahhhhh!
This is the before pic.
What a disgrace!
