Life has a funny way of setting your priorities. A quick update on what's coming... I just acquired a Kenwood KIV-BT900 from Crutchfield and am hopefully going to get that installed in the next week or so. There seems to be some confusion on how exactly to wire this thing up while wanting to keep the Bose amp and speakers in place. It seems every time I call those guys to verify I get pointed in a different direction. Looking to get this resolved once they send me the RCA-style wiring harness (Metra 70-7551) which, interestingly enough, isn't supposed to "fit" in my car according to their site.I'm also looking to install a PAC SWI-JACK so I can keep the use of my steering wheel controls. I have to say, though, that when I saw the little packet of resistors in the box I suddenly felt I had plunged into some deep, dark waters. I'm not much into this type of thing so I hope I don't turn the Max into a bon fire. The ultimate reason for upgrading the Bose head unit comes down to not wanting/needing/affording a monthly payment on a new ride. At least that's what the boss... er... wife keeps telling me. So I got the Kenwood as a b-day present for myself. The Max just turned 80k which ain't bad for a 9 year old.A Little Bit About Me and My Max!I'm from a small town called Colchester, CT. Not sure how much longer it's going to stay small as we were the 2nd fastest growing town in CT last year. What's that mean? More taxes (uhg!!!).This is the second Maxima I've owned. My last one was a 1998 SE Super Black on black leather with every option available. It was an awesome car! There's just something about a black car that screams "refined".As the end of my lease was approaching, I'd considered a couple of other cars, but was impressed with the 5th gen looks and performance. When I got to the dealer and saw the SE/AE, I knew I had to have one. I came soooooo close to getting another black on black, but thought I'd try a different color. I'm still not sure I made the right move. But considering all of the paint problems we've been having with our Max's, I'm feeling pretty good about it.(Update 9 years later... still thinking I should have gone black on black)Modifications Before I joined this board, I had no idea what could be done to a Maxima. Maxima.org is such a great place for information, sharing ideas, and just B.S.ing. It's great to have a place to go where people are open to helping you out with something you enjoy... the Maxima.INTAKE As the info says on the left side, I've got a JWT POP-Charger for my intake. Some of the guys on this board were really helpful during that install. Before that, I've never done a mod anything like that let alone turn a screw under the hood with the exception of the FSTB.(Update 9 years later - I cleaned my POP-Charger again today and thought about getting a replacement "filter" for it. Wow, have those designs changed. When I saw the updated one I felt like Brandon Frazier in Encino Man.)FSTB Unfortunately, there's no listing in the suspension setup page for the Courtesy FSTB which is the way I went instead of the Stillen. The FSTB is probably the best bang for your buck out there. Not to mention, a pretty straight forward and easy install. Kinda makes you feel like you're Super-Mod-Man and you just get deeper and deeper into the trap from there... hehe.RSB After careful thought and consideration (as well as the evil whisperings from punkdork), I decided to go with the Stillen RSB. The bummer was that I was missing a nut/bolt/washer set when I opened the box so I had to get a Grade 8 bolt and nyloc nut from the local hardware store. That's a lot of $$$ to be spending and find parts missing.RSB UPDATE Well, the deed IS DONE!!! The RSB is in... FINALLY!!! (05/26/01)Be forewarned... if you own a 2001 Max, inquire about a modified ABS shield. Not sure if Stillen supplies one, but I know I didn't get one with my order. I had to make some modifications to the bracket that holds the ABS in place in order to get the Stillen RSB brackets fit. Apparently, the 2000 and 2001 model years have different ABS brackets. Here is a composite pic (again, sorry for the poor quality) of what my ABS line bracket looks like. I threw in one from Paul2kGXE's RSB write-up for reference. Yes, I know his pictures are a lot better quality than mine (perhaps my next mod should be a digital camera :) ). BTW, Paul did a GREAT job in his write-up. Although his was a little different from mine, it gave me a terrific perspective.
