JANUARAY---------TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH SETUP(3)
Well, I am not so impressed with the results of my drive train performance after the engine rebuild. It seem to be the clutch problem's now. This stage 3 clutch couldn't grip correctly on upshifts. I notice this problem to be caused by the underdrive pulley and lightend flywheel together. The rev drop is so drastic that when I get to upshift, the rpms dropped out too far and when I am trying to drop the clutch in, the slower rpms from the engine couldn't grip, and it results in slipping catches. I am not impressed with SPEC clutches at all after I have gone through both stage 2 and stage 3 setup. I find this problem to be very annoying; and I am thinking, it's got to be Spec's pressure plates because the grip feels very light. So I, again, ventured off for another clutch solution. ACT rings the bell right away, I have heard lots of good things about their clutch kits, but they all have heavy clutch pedal results. So I cannot consider this option since my girlfriend likes to drive my car and she didn't like heavy clutches. Then XTD STAGE 3 CLUTCH came to mind after a brief search from maxima.org. Stephen Max is a wise guy of the org and he'd installed this kit on someone's car and called it good things by far. I am at ease to consider this option since clutch feel isn't too heavy either.
In the mean time, my transmission case is leaking fluid pretty bad. I have replaced the drive shaft seals before and it still does leak; now that it is just getting worse daily. I considered many options before I select the final transmission setup. I stumbled across to find that one of my local good friend's getting rid of his car for his future plan and I'm the next best guy to use what he's got left on that car. Well, it happens that his car has a very new tranny from gears of different vehicles. It's the ALTIMA-MAXIMA HYBRID GEARS TRANSMISSION. The altima transmission has taller gear ratio's of 1st and 2nd gears, this will ease out my torque loss problems from installing the cams. Also, the last gear of the altima is shorter; resultingly, it would be lower rpms to ride higher speeds. That smells like a good gas milage on interstates. One more find this month: After consulting and searching on maxima forums, I find this clattering noise to come from my oem transmission's input bearings. This clattering noise only occurs when clutch pedal is off. When engaging the clutch, the noise goes. So far both the clutch and the tranny are in progress of being installed, I'll post more about this after they get done...
