1987 BMW e28 535i (5-speed mit 3.25 LSD):
2-owner car originally from New Jersey. Purchased from Richard M in November 2004 who had taken the car in partial trade for his '99 e39. When the elderly previous owners who had owned the car for over 10 years showed up in the '87 535i to pick-up his e39, he made them an offer on it.
I picked up the car with 114k and all maintenance up to date with the exception of going through to replace suspension bushings, brake discs, pads and rotors. The dash is crack free, the pearlbiege leather interior (comfort seats) is gorgeous as is the paint (Bronzitbiege metallic). The exhaust is new a new cat-back Supersprint system from BMPD (Texas)with twin chrome exhaust tips. The A/C is ICE COLD (still R-12) and all electrical goodies work with the exception of the driver's side headrest (an easy fix).
I've decided to complete a euro-spec cosmetic conversion on the car including all German language switchgear, euro lamps (with city lights), eurospec "hat tray" (with integral sun-shade), chrome eurospec bumpers, Style 4 BMW alloys from an e38 750iL(8x16; 5mm spacers in front were a must!) currently wearing Goodyear F1 tires (225/50/16)...Thanks Tim G in Central NJ!
I just took the car to 5erFest 2005 at the Zentrum in Spartanburg, SC and participated in my first autocross.
The wheel upgrade will require the rear fender wells to be trimmed (or rolled). Spirited driving at 5erFest both on the twisties (Brevard, NC "fun run") and during the autocross taught produced a good bit of rear tire scrub!
Another Summer 2005 project will include going through the entire suspension to replace bushings, struts, springs, and install e28 ///M5 swaybars & links. Steering still feels tight but I will inspect the idler arms and center track as well...
Long live the e28!!!
