Another retsof76 2001 Kia Rio post...

Here's a look at some of the goodies for the new system. Speakers, amps, and pre-amp are all ARC Audio. 3.5" Beyma mids are also being added along with Beyma M6 6" woofers for the door panels.3 ARC 12d4 subsARC XEQ 7 band 9v pre-amp2-KAR200.2, KAR1000.2, ACS265 6.5" component set.Other equipment includes Alpine head unit, Optima yellow-top battery, Nesavision 7" TFT wide screen monitor, and a variety of fusing, wire, and stiffening caps.

Another retsof76 2001 Kia Rio post...

dash reworked with pre-amp flush mounted into the old cup holder location. the accessory pocket was also eliminated.these are the new kicks. i molded them into a seamless one piece unit because it just looks better than some bolted in kick panel... Here is a pic of one of the kicks finished and wrapped...Here are the Beyma SD-35, 3.5" midrange speakers for the windshield pillars. For those who aren't familiar, Beyma is a company in Spain that produces some of the best engineered, best sounding audio around. Check 'em out.Here are some pics of the early stages of the new windshield pillars. They'll be home to Beyma 3.5" mids and ARC Audio 1" tweets. Here are some finished pics...Ditched the 7" Nesavision and went with Kenwood 6150. Also lost the cup holder and accessory pocket and flushed in the ARC Audio XEQ and wrapped the whole thing in vinyl.Here are a couple of quick shots of the Rainbow Audio 6.9" woofers for the new door panels...

Another retsof76 2001 Kia Rio post...

This is my RIO! Basically what you'll see here is the evolution of my Kia Rio. This is the step-by-step build up of my car from an average "econo-box", to something that will hopefully be more show worthy. I will update the site as I upgrade my car, so keep checking back for the latest modifications. So far I have installed a set of Eagle model 160's 17"x7" with Marshall 205/40/17 rubber. Suspension modifications are hard to come by because this is such a new model, so most of those pieces wil have to be custom made. First plans are to fit a cold-air intake(probablly from a Honda). Next will be a 1.5" drop. The local speed shop says that they can get custom springs from Eibach. After that comes the sway bars and strut tower brace. Hopefully all of this will be done by the end of this summer, so stay in touch and I'll keep you posted.Here's a good shot of the wheels. *If you like my car, please vote. Here are some good pics of the interior work that I have done. All of the painting was done with Dupont "Starburst Blue" metallic automotive paint. The paint was originally to be used on my old Dodge Shadow, but it got traded in for the Kia after I lost the head gasket.I have to give special thanks to Jon Nelson for his paint skills and prep-work. He has done many restorations(including some of his own), show cars, and has even had some of his work published in magazines. I highly recommend him to anyone in the Wichita/Valley Center area needing some paint work done.Here is a look at the dash from the passenger side.Here's one from the driver's side.These are the door panels as of 10/02FrontRearStereo and pre-ampPedals

Another retsof76 2001 Kia Rio post...

The car didn't come with electric locks, so it was about time that I added keyless entry. solenoids were added to the locks, and tapped into the alarm system so they lock and unlock when i arm and disarm the car. i waited way too long to put a TV in the car. i didn't want to use a flip-out since i was going to put the PS2 in the car, so the 7" Nesavision TFT monitor was the next best thing... with the monitor in the radio location, it was time to find a place for the Alpine. i removed the passenger airbag and glassed the head unit there at a slight angle so i can still see it from my seat...

Here's the latest as of 11-17-01. The wheels are the same color as the dash and engine cowl. I wanted to keep the machined lip on the wheel for a little added flavor.Fresh from the paint booth...A little side-by-side comparison...This is the air-dam. I used some basic expanded metal and painted it white to match. The left side was left out to incorporate the aluminum flex-duct that feeds the intake.

Another retsof76 2001 Kia Rio post...

This is the finished intake design for my Rio. After some light welding, adding 10" to the MAF harness, and some special ordered parts, I came up with this...I had to cut a bit out of the engine cowl to accomodate the filter. It's basically shoe-horned between the battery and the cowl.The intake works great! I probablly only picked up ~2-5hp, but there was a noticable pick-up during acceleration. I'm confident of better efficiency of this filter system compared to the factory set up. You can actually hear the higher flow when the car is running, even from inside the car. I'm happy to finally have it finished.This is the filter that I used. It's a Opak Racing filter made by OBX Engineering. It has a nice vortex feature that the K&N filters don't offer, and the blue accents match the trim on the Rio. If you like my car, please vote...thanks.

These are some newer misc. pics...basking in the sunsitting in the drivewaymufflerThese are a couple taken at the local dealership. I was asked to showcase my car at an open house that was being held this June. Everyone responded positively, and i was given a plug for the car and the club(Streetkiaz.com)by the radio station that was doing a live promo.Here's my first carshow win.
