Tanzanite3's 1991 Chevrolet Corvette

This was taken one evening in the fall with the sun just about DOWN!

Tanzanite3's 1991 Chevrolet Corvette

This is what the beast looks like with her new wheels and tires (Aug 2, 2001). I think the look has been improved considerably!

Tanzanite3's 1991 Chevrolet Corvette

This one was taken in front of our home on an overcast day. Explains the colour differences!

If you're here and don't have a lot to do, then stay a while and listen to this interesting story. There is a moral at the end!

How we ended up with this Corvette

Lesley, the love of my life, and I were on a Sunday drive to get an ice cream. We have a special place about 40 miles from home that we like to visit. It takes us through several small towns on the way and is quite a nice drive. This one Sunday, while I was just starting up from a traffic light in one of the small towns, Lesley said "Oh, look at the nice Vette on Bill's lot. I've never seen that colour before!" I took a quick glance over to my left and said as we passed by the lot " OK, we'll return this way and stop in to see it!" That's just what we did and while test driving it I was astonished when I realized the absolute mint condition of the whole car. Only 20,000 miles were on the odometer. This is almost a ten year old car! We pulled over to change drivers, examined the outside everywhere, not the slightest stone chip anywhere to be found! What a beauty!!

Now, how do we hold back our enthusiasm and not get screwed by the dealer big time? We decided to let it ride for a week and return the next Sunday with Lesley's '87 Honda Tanzanite3's 1991 Chevrolet Corvette(her baby, never seen snow, showroom condition!) CRX and make a deal because the dealer mentioned that The Vette had just arrived that morning. As we were driving along toward home from the dealer, I commented that I never knew Lesley really liked Corvettes that much. She reminded me about when we first started dating and she mentioned one of her old buddies (boyfriends) who had Corvettes and I didn't want to and couldn't compete (car-wise!) with that. So, she never again mentioned it! What a sweet kid! I on the other hand knew that I loved them but they always seemed "out of reach" for whatever reason. (Dumb me!)

The next week was spent with a lot of time devoted to dreaming about life with a Corvette. How good a deal could we make? Would he be willing to take the Honda in trade? What is it really worth? (both the Honda and the Vette) and on and on we dreamed! Cleaned the Honda all up spiffy and back we went the next Sunday.

We drove onto the dealers lot and there it was .. just as beautiful as last Sunday. We hopped out of the Honda and started to talk a deal with Bill. Just as we began, Bill said: That one was sold this week! OMG !!! Can you believe it!! We were absolutely demolished! It seems that a hunter from Ohio was up in Canada and saw the car, bought it and was preparing to take it back home with him. We got back into the Honda and while driving home, I realized that Lesley really wanted that Vette. She said so! And so did I want it! Oh yeah, weve got it dont we?? So, I guess you better keep reading.

Monday morning, on the way to work I come up with a plan, unknown to Lesley. I call Bill, no answer, I call again, no answer. After about the 6th time, I decide to drive the 40 miles to Bills. Just as I arrive, Bill pulls in, its just before lunch.
Me: Good morning Bill.. Im going to make this a tough day for you.
Bill: Hows that?
Me: That Corvette is worth $1,000.00 more in your pocket today! I am willing to pay you a thousand more than the guy from Ohio did and I dont even know what that deal was!
Bill: Oh, I couldnt do that!
Me: Do what?
Bill: There you are driving down the road in the Vette and the guy from Ohio comes in and I have to tell him I got an extra thousand from him!
Me: No, thats not what Im asking. I know you have scruples and have an honest business to run (lets not lose sight of the fact that this is a used car sales lot). All Im asking is that you mention to the guy from Ohio that someone who saw the car before he did has offered you an additional thou. He may come up the thou and it will be in your pocket. Or hell walk, in which case Ill give you the extra thou. Or, hell dig his heels in and you will have to stick to the deal with him. Two out of three are better for you and one of them is the outcome I want.
Bill: Well, yes, I suppose I could do that!

Back in the van and back to work, fingers crossed. Message light in the office is flashing .. Lesley has just called. Seems Bill just phoned and told her the car is ours .. come up and get it this evening. WOOOOOHHHHOOOOOOOOO!

Seems the guy from Ohio was having a bit of trouble transferring the cash up to Canada for the car and when he heard that locals (LESLEY & I) wanted it, to just let em have it! Cash deal was made that evening after work and we still have the Honda. Isn't life amazing sometimes?

So, The moral of the story is twofold:
BE CREATIVE AND NEVER GIVE UP!

So now, I suppose you're interested in the GOLDILOX part?

Lesley, as you can see from the picture is a blonde. Stretch it to Gold? We went to a black-tie charity ball where there was a silent auction. At the end of the hall were three beautiful white stuffed bears; Momma bear, baby bear and poppa bear. Lesley just had to have them (did I tell you I love Lesley?) and seeing that this, afterall, was a charity auction, who cares what it costs! Just get the highest bid on the page! That's easy, I can do that!

We walked out that evening after a very fun time with the three bears under our arms. Already people were smiling! We opened the hatch and placed them in for the ride home. (if you look carefully, you can just see them in some of the pictures) Upon arrival in the garage at home, I couldn't take them out of there .. they just belonged in the back of that Vette!

When my daughter saw them in there for the first time she said "Lesley, you must be Goldilocks". Right then and there we had to have the personal plate to match!

You would not believe the attention that the three bears get .. whenever we go anywhere with the Vette we make sure it's parked where we can watch it. (don't we all?) Lots and lots of people notice the car, then the bears. They stop and look in, notice the licence plate and it all comes to a meaning. It's changed a bit for the better now because in Ontario you were only able to have six letters on your plate. So, we got GLDLOX.. which proved to be a bit vague and difficult for some people. However, a few months ago, they opened up the limitation to eight letters and we now have GOLDILOX.. that should be a bit easier for everyone. Gldlox is on the Honda. I guess we need three more bears now???!!!!

This is the option listing found under the center armrest of the '91 Coupe. She has some pretty cool options! Just a few are the Z07 Performance Package Agressive Sport, which includes both FX3 and FE7. Just about the stiffest ever produced by GM for a Vette. Along with this came the KC4 Engine Oil Cooling System as well as the J55 High Performance Brake Package. It also has the MN6 6-speed manual shift trans and is a georgeous Turquoise Metallic paint code 42U .. only available in '90 and '91!

So, whats with Tanzanite3 you ask?

Well, like a lot of things in life there is an explanation! And, to us, it makes sense. Once you read this, it may well make sense to you also!

Quite a long time ago, 15 years actually, I was fortunate to do some work in Tanzania, Africa. It is here where the precious (or maybe semi-precious.. Im not a gemologist!) stones called Tanzanites are mined.. only here in Tanzania! I bought two of them (not cheap!) about 1 carats in size and returned home. This is well before they became sought after in North America for their beautiful brilliance and diamond like reflectivity. They are a deep purplish blue in colour and are very pretty.

Lesley and I were serious friends at the time, she just loved the stones, so we decided to have them fashioned into some nice earrings. Several months later I realized that I would be a total fool if I did not ask Lesley to marry me. I did.. she agreed.. and we did. Life truly did begin at 50 for me! Les is my everything! Oh yeah .. back to the story!!

While discussing the missing engagement ring (ooops!) Les realized the significance of the Tanzanites and suggested having the ring made with them instead of the earrings, which werent yet made. I thought this to be a super idea. We went to our favourite manufacturing jeweller and had a DY-NO-MITE engagement ring made. It is a 1 carat diamond flanked on each side with 1 carat Tanzanites. She gets compliments on the ring almost every week! This is Tanzanite I !!

A few years later, we decided to purchase a boat for our pleasure. We settled on a great ole gal with brand new deep blue canvas. A 35 foot Chris Craft! She too was a real gem and we named her Tanzanite II. There is also a Tanzanite.5.. we really love being on the water and found that the Chris is just a bit slow! Understatement!! To solve this dilemma, we purchased an 18 foot Bombadier Challenger with twin 110 horsepower jet drives. It goes about 50 miles an hour .. sure took care of that problem! Cause it was so small beside Tanzanite II, we named it Tanzanite.5 .

About this same time, we were trying to come up with a suitable web handle and thought that Tanzanite 3 would be appropriate! So thats what we used!!

Make sense??

YES, WE ALWAYS WAVE!

If you've actually endured this whole story from top to bottom, leave a comment in our Guestbook please.. we'd really appreciate hearing from you!
