I had limited buget to work with when looking to install a better sound system in my car and with the help of the guys at www.csfanatic.com this is what we came up with.
Big thanks to Jerry for doing a great install.

The unit chosen was a Premier by Pioneer cd player. The reason we chose Premier was because of its MANY feature. 3 sets of pre-outs, sub control, nifty eq control, and excellent build quality to name a few.

The unit was flush mounted in the stock location in the dash.

Coustic 6.5 inch components were brought over from my previous car,a Ford Escort, which were in custom fiberglassed kickpanels. The stage in the Ford was quite good, and imaging was WAY above average. The stage was quite high as well. We were a little concerned for mounting the Coustics in the Civics doors, but after doing some *measuring, the doors proved to be a solid location. A 1 inch baffle was used to mount the 6.5 inch woofer. For proper imaging, we mounted the tweeter directly over the woofer by simply using a backstrap. Remarkably, the stage wasnt that bad. It does produce pretty good depth and detail. Imaging is pretty good with reference discs.
The stage is a little low and narrow, but thats typical of a door install. Overall, its a very smooth sounding front stage...not harsh at all even at high volumes.

Rear speakers...we left the stock and are sometimes turned off, or are filtered by the Premier's FIE feature.
They are 6x9's.

Subwoofer:The best, and least expensive, subwoofer we could find was the Aura RPM 10 inch woofer. I compared it to the JL w0 and JLw1 and I thought the Aura sounded better. It went lower, was a little louder, and had a little more impact. The JL's also seemed a little muddy at high volumes. The Aura cost a fraction of what the JL's went for.

Enclosure: The sub is mounted in a somewhat larger enclosure for a 10 incher, but we wanted absolute SQ.The sub is mounted in a 1.4 cubic foot enclosure made of 3/4 MDF. The top baffle has two sheets of MDF, so its 1.5 inches thick. The box is sealed. The Q of this set up is approx. 0.57 wich is excellent as far as low end extension is concerned. The box was first made for my Ford Escort and was custom to fit in the hatch. It looked very sharp in the Ford, and it doesnt look too awkward in the Civic.

Amplifier: Again we chose Aura as the workhorse to power the sub. It is VERY conservitavely rated at 50x2 at 12 volts. Bridged, it is 150x1 at 12 volts. Its a very powerful amp for its size, and we are continually impressed with it, as well as almost every product
Aura puts out. Currently, the amp is bridged to the sub. The current enclosure can easily be upgraded to
accomadate another 10 inch.

Wiring: Lightning Audio wiring was used throught the car. 8 gauge power wire was chosen.

Conclusion: Budget was the major factor when designing the system. The total damage came out to about $450.00 bucks. If the system were to be installed by a shop, who knows what the final cost would be. This car is definately not an SPL champ, which is fine because it wasnt designed to be. It's designed for SQ on a real tight budget and our goal was DEFINATELY accomplished.

*Measuring- We measured the distance from both sides of the doors to the driver's ears. The differance wasnt too bad as with other cars, so we chose the doors. The doors also brought out more bass than in the previous install which were custom kickpanels in a "free air" configuration.)
