After the Tragic loss of my 1978 4th Gen, 1st edition Monte Carlo, I needed to find another mode of transportation. I just started my adventure into car audio with my Monte Carlo, and figured I might as well keep on goin with my Truck!
regkmet's 1974 GMC SierraHey everyone! My Name Is Reg Kmet. I Live in a small town in southern manitoba (Canada) Called Gimli. It is based on an Icelandic setlement, and in Icelandic, It means Paradise. But considering that I'm a 100% Hardcore Ukrainian, that couldnt matter less to me! Here I stand beside my Beefy 74' GMC super custom 1/2 ton!
regkmet's 1974 GMC SierraHere lies the muscle of my "Farmtruck" A 350 with Mickey Thomas valve covers, and "budget" Ram Air :P
regkmet's 1974 GMC Sierraopposite shot of the powerplant! believe it or not, she'll go toe to toe with the 3rd gen stock camaro's and birds. I recently got to toast an 86' with a 2.8, and i even had my snowmobile on the back!
regkmet's 1974 GMC SierraHere shows the 8 gauge power wire with a 30 amp fuse connection, albiet it might not be as fancy (or expensive!) as the fosgate or Phoenix Gold connections, but it provides adequate protection!
regkmet's 1974 GMC Sierrahere shows the power wire running through my firewall, protected with a grommet, one advantage of these old beasts is that they are HUGE! yo ucan safely drill up here without fear of hitting anything. the location i chose put the wire right behind my glovebox and easily concealed coming into the cab
regkmet's 1974 GMC Sierrahere shows a nice glamour shot of my dash. what's that lurking in the lower right corner you ask???
regkmet's 1974 GMC SierraA Kenwood KDC 5005!!! this unit has served me well, and puts out some quite respectable numbers as well. Anyone who has ever tried an install in an older GMC or Chevy knows that a new style deck will not fit in the stock AM Radio location. To cure this, I used a piece of 5/16 MDF, and using foam rubber and sheet metal, i mounted the deck to it, predrilled my holes in the dash, and used 3 metal screws, although as you can see, the front left corner is farther away from the dash, so it required a metal extension. I assure you once all was sadi and done, i could drive the truck off a cliff and the deck will not skip! even at it's upward angle.
regkmet's 1974 GMC Sierranow, keep in mind the year of the truck and a 17 year old's budget! up front in the kicks i mounted a set of Audiovox Rampage 6x9's (please, dont laugh, it's all i could afford) Running off my decks front channel each getting 35 watts. for the drivers side, i predrilled my holes and used 2" robertson screws. however the speakers proximity to the parking brake doesnt allow for the use of the grille, but i assure you, from the drivers position it is not noticeable!
regkmet's 1974 GMC Sierrathe passengers side (sorry, bad pic, grille not noticeable)
regkmet's 1974 GMC SierraHere lies the soul of the system, An MTX thunder 280. The birth sheet states that it puts out around 78 watts a channel rms @ 4 ohms! i mounted it to a piece of MDF painted black, and it resides under my seat. I am running it 2 ohms Bridged, hence the addition of my cooling fan
