While the engine was out this summer, we decided to work on the interior and replace the torn upholstry and carpet. That will be a start on the interior. Below are a few before pics. I will try to get the after pics in shortly. Tackling the carpet was a bigger job than I realized--that is until we started on it in 90+ degrees, uh yeah, that makes you decide to work on it into the night... It was pretty disgusting with all of that tar underlayment---blehhhhhh.

Scraping the tar underlayment

More scraping...pure ignorance on how much work this really was

Finally through all of the tar--and truly amazed at how good the floor pans look after more than 30 years. They had always felt solid and looked good from underneath, but you never, ever know.

Doing some wire brushing on the drivers side where there was some minor surface rust. The strange thing was that there no underlayment on the drivers side--may be the cause of surface rust on that side. No wonder it was always so miserable hot...

After the stock underlayment we added another layer of sound deadener and insulation from the heat. It has heat reflecting qualities to it.

The seats were looking pretty nasty--truly needed those towels

All nice and new. I don't know if anyone else has ever dealt with this or not, but since I have the new seats they sit much higher than the old ones and I keep hitting my head, plus I feel like Lurch in there now :-/

~~~~~~~~~~~~~*5/07 My handy-work on the quarter trims for the back seat. They look so nice.
