BUILDING THE SUB BOX: MDF

MDF

Ok! Here I go with the MDF. I used 3/4 inch board that I got from Home Depot. The whole sheet was $21.95! I got out my mask and my scroll saw! The mask because I have heard MDF lets off a toxic fume when it is being cut. You have to wear a resperated mask to protect yourself!

Time to get cutting!

I planned to start with the top and bottom and then figure out how much space there would need to be between for the sides and back! I figured the height was the most critical part of my design, so the top and bottom had to be exact!

I started by cutting the bottom board! Back and forth I went, making small cuts to trim the board down, to get it to fit exact.

Had to notch it to clear the hatch pull down!

Next I cut the top out!

Here I found a glass that had the same curve as the hatch pull down jut out. I placed it down and traced the glass to get a nice sweeping curve. I did this on all my curves

This one was a pain to get the fit exactly right. The cut around the hatch pull down was horrible. Tons of back and forth... trimming it just right!

I got it pretty darn close, but the carpet covering I was going with till I build the fiberglass top would take up any slack!

After some measurements, it was time to throw in the back...I had to cut the board on an angle to get it to sit how I wanted it.

Now some boards up front...

Test fitting the top

Here is the contraption so far out of the car...With tons of trimming, I have gotten all the cuts and measurements down as far as a skeleton version. Now I just had to fill it the blank spots!

Measuring and making a pattern for the blank sides was the way to go!

MDF cut and fitted

Now another test fit in the car to be 100% sure...

Time for the last 2 pieces of the puzzle...
