The car was originally black, however the VA sun had burnt it out(along with most of the 'soft' parts). The car had always sat outside (a family of c... Show moreats was living underneath). The previous owner had a new clutch installed along with new tires and a battery. He then let it sit for a year as a cat shelter. When the cats had moved on he tried to start the car but it was 'stuck' in gear. That's when he got mad at it and called a buddy of mine who then called me to see if i wanted it for free. We were planning a trip to VA anyway so I would only be out of a little time, if it didn't pan out. I was sceptical but looked anyway. It definatly wasn't love at first site as the burnt out paint and the fact that the ashtray had overflowed into the counsel. Being closed up for a year in the VA sun, you can imagine what it smelled like. However the body and sub frames were solid.
With the car jacked up, I could not see anything wrong, so I put it back on the ground and pointed down the street. I cranked the motor and the Omni bunny hopped down the road until it started. Once it started it was fine. Apparently the new clutch disc had bonded to to fresh turned flywheel. This was Friday afternoon. We spent the weekend driving it every where fixing little things as we went along. (Wiper bushings, horn relay, hatch struts). We were able to find a 'fresh (non-smoker) counsel and installed that also. We also scubbed out the interior and cleaned the windows which were dark yellow from nicotine. I drove it back to NW Ohio the following Monday (about 600 miles).
This is a MAACO paint job (73 Cuda color). A friend tricked out the grille (ala Cuda). The 15" wheels also came from VA via the ALLPAR site. The MOPAR National provided me with some leads for new window seals. (Surprisingly some of the parts are still available from dealerships).
I was able to find a 90 model in a wrecking yard and scored the outside mirrors and the rear shoulder belts. I added the second hood support rod. The Tuff wheel came from my stash. The cam cover is a new MOPAR piece that my buddy (Gary) in VA gave me. I had it chromed to give it a little pizaaz. He also added the pin stripes and tinted the rear hatch window.
Overall the car runs well for 100K. It is driven daily. I use Mobil 1 and change it every 12K (it uses 1 qt betwen changes). Mileage is in the low to mid 30's.
In winter I put the original 13' wheels back on for snow. Show Less
