Step 1: - Locate and unclip the factory air filter box. Remove the air filter.
Step 2: - Release the connector that locks the factory intake to the throttle body. To do so, use a pair of pliers to pull together the factory ring clips until they clip to each other. Disconnect the small hose next to the throttle body connected to the engine cover. This hose would usually be replaced by a hose provided with your CAI kit. Remove the entire air intake.
Step 3: - Unscrew the two screws holding the filter box -located between the battery and the filter box; unscrew the 3rd screw located inside the filter box underneath the plastic cooling pipe located inside the box. Before releasing the filter box, you MUST unscrew and remove the plastic box in front of the radiator fixture and secured with a plastic clip that can simply be pulled out.
Step 4: - The Air filter box will be retained by the thermostat sensor that can be simply unscrewed and left in the compartment and taped in front of the air intake if you would like.
Step 5: - THIS STEP IS OPTIONAL: In our 1999 Saturn, the BOMZ Air intake kit came with a plastic connector that was too big for the connector on the throttle body. You can buy a smaller diameter plastic joint that will mount between the throttle body and the air intake pipe from your local Pep Boys or Auto Zones stores. In my case, i simply cut the end of the factory intake that was connected to the throttle body and glued that piece inside the plastic joint from Bonz, thus allowing for a snug-fit attachment. I had to cut another tiny piece of rubber to fill one gap that is created by one of the notches in the design of the factory connector. After i glued that tiny piece (cut to the size of the gap with scissors), the complete assembly was air leak proof and completely sealed.
Step 6: - Mount the plastic connecting piece to the throttle body (make sure you insert the ring connector first) then attach the air intake to the other end of the plastic connecting hose. Do not tighten the ring connectors yet.
Step 7: - Attach the Bomz Air filter to the intake pipe and adjust so that it sits fine in front of the battery. When you are happy with the seating, tighten up the connector rings connecting the T-306 Aluminum Chrome Finished Intake Pipe to the Air Filter and the ones connecting it to the throttle body.
Step 8: - Connect the small hose from the New Chrome Finished Intake Pipe to the engine.
