I'm trying to update my seriously out-of-date Rides page, but when I do, my photos don't appear. Where are my old pix? The pictures already on the page are w... Show moreay too large. And why does every post now start with, "Another So-n-So post..." ? This new format, even though it's like 3 years old, doesnt seem to like me.
Posting a photo here- if it posts- of a "rod run" my local multi-make car club went on last year (2015). Note the difference in vehicle styles depicted!
I said I'd try to post some progress in a year or so. Well it became two. But here you are, the frame nearly finished
This is what a Checker frame looks like.
Like I needed another project.
This is a 1985 Chevy Nova that I bought to traipse around in during winter and spare my poor ol' Checker the salt bath. It... Show more's not a true Nova; it's basically a badge-engineered Toyota, and was built in a CA factory by a GM/Toyota venture called NUMMI. (They make the Pontiac Vibe there now.)
Anyway, I'm wanting to make mine an artcar. I'll need lots of coral, seashells, plastic kelp, aluminum siding, and several yards of rubber hose. Any tips from experienced artcar builders? I'm going with a fake tuner/Mini/rally car outside and a pirate/beach/tropical theme inside.
Replaced front fender with one off a better-looking junker
Green front running lights
Painted wheels and lower body panels
Covered back bumper with stickers
Populated interior with various lizards, sharks, cockroach, etc
Installed two 5x9's in package shelf
Fish bone steering wheel cover
Obtained Plankton mascot (like this car he's small, strange, angry, & ineffective)
Eyeball tire valve caps
Attempted rust-hole repair
Replaced gas door
Replaced water pump (note:If someone ever tries to hire you to replace one in a car like this, punch them in the face. You have to completely loosen the engine and jack it up 4 or 5 inches just to get the furschlugginer pully off. )
Replaced timing belt, tensioner, valve cover gasket, tie rod ends
New random stickers
front bumper from an Isuzu
rear bumper add-on from an S10
two Escort spoilers
Grand Am side molding
1987 Nova trunk panel
4-corner water squirting system
Kawasaki turn signals- front
custom fabbed altezza style taillights
motorcycle crash bar- front
custom graphics (skulls/tribal motif?)
mechanical parts from other Novas
assorted lawn mower and bicycle bits
trunk lid to resemble old packing trunk
lawnmower hood hoodscoop
interior to be decorated with tags off of random small appliances, radios, other cars, mowers, & whatever.
I think I've decided to put motorcycle exhaust pipes on the sides.
Looking for "copper fire" paint in spray cans. Beige is SO lame.
I'll keep my booty, er, beauty rings till I find some 14" Kia alloys. They'll bolt right on.
I'd like to swap in one of those twin cammer engines. Sweet!
Hey kids! Print this off and colour your own Nova! Don't forget the angry graphics!
My other car is so much cooler. CarDomain now has a category for Checker, so check my other page! Show Less
