Since my last post several years ago, so much has changed that it might just be easier to post what it's like now rather than try to find all the changes. H... Show moreell, CarDomain has even changed so much itself since the last time I got on here. I don't even remember what I had done to the car back then that I still have now.
I think the last post was in 2009. Since then, the easy stuff I can remember that I changed are the wheels, engine, turbo setup, front fenders, gauges, battery relocation, IC, radiator, hood, a few different things on the interior...just so much.
-I changed the Enkei RPF1s for AME TM02s in 2010. The TM02 wheels are 18x9.5 22 and 18x10.5 22, and I'm using eBay 8mm spacers up front and Project Kics 10mm spacers in the rear. I bought some ISS Forged wheels in 2011 but I ended up not liking them enough to install them, so they've just been sitting in my basement since then...and they're for sale haha. I'm currently waiting for a CAD design based on my current wheels to make some 3pc wheels with step lips. I'm hoping to finally have some 3pc wheels that I really love.
-I changed the Sanai front bumper to a FEED Type 2 replica from Shine Auto Project that I bought from my roommate when he parted his car. I still have the Sanai sides and rear quarters, and the RE-Amemiya Pro diffuser replica from Shine Auto Project. I have plans to possibly make a legit diffuser based on it, and/or make a wing to install to the rear of the car while the bumper is off.
-In 2011 or 2012 I had the front fenders modified to look like the rears, with a lip welded to the stock fender. Tom Beauchamp from Beauchamp Racing and Restoration did the work.
-Tom Beauchamp welded a bracket to the frame rail in the engine bay so I could mount my water injection pump there. I'm using the stock washer bottle for water injection, but I'm going to have one made and switch to 50/50 water/meth solution due to deposits in my throttle body and intake manifolds.
-In 2011 I switched to a Borg Warner EFR7670, and it is AMAZING. Spools like the stock twins with the power of a single. I love this turbo, and as long as I have the money I'll never go back to another turbo. Tom Beauchamp built a custom manifold for the turbo with short runners and a downpipe, and I have dual Tial MV-S wastegates and I just installed lines to run coolant to the wastegates.
-In 2011 I changed the IC and I'm about to do another change to a custom built IC, still Vmount configuration though. I will be using a Bell IC core, 14"x9.4"x 4.5" and having the end tanks made custom. I'll also be moving my relay boxes along the driver's side of the engine bay so I can run the piping a little smoother, and then I'll remove the GReddy intake elbow and install what I believe is an HKS intake elbow that has a better angle for flow.
-I've gone through a couple radiators, a couple engines, two different battery relocations, and I'm about to modify the current battery setup again. I had mounted a Braille battery in the spare tire well, but I put an Optima Yellow Top in the bin behind the passenger seat. I'm switching to a smaller Optima Yellow Top so I can remove the battery without taking out the bins first.
-I bought a Race Shop roll bar on a whim from a friend, so I'll be installing that sometime this summer.
-I think some time in 2012 I changed the hood to a Shine Auto Project FEED replica and I'm seriously thinking about finally adding a drop vent down to the IC. I added some J's Racing hood pins to the hood sometime in 2012 I think, after I saw the hood moving too much while driving on the highway.
-I've changed the oil coolers from Mocal to Setrab, and just changed the lines to push-lok last fall. I also finally hard mounted the oil cooler thermostat.
-I removed the modified stock power steering cooler line and bought a universal cooler from Advance Auto Parts, had it modified with side pieces to protect the fins a little more, and mounted it with some stock brackets.
-I just rewired the fuel system a few months ago and added dual filters, check valves, pressure switches (for indicator lights if I lost pressure), and I'm about to switch to Flex Fuel so I'm changing it a little again. I also flared the stock hard lines to accept ends to connect to AN fittings. I installed a CJ Motorsports dual pump hanger with Stealth 340 pumps, but I'll have to switch those again to something that will handle E85. I'm also planning a custom in-tank surge tank incorporating the new Holley Hydramat.
-I'm about to change the coilovers from STANCE to Ohlins DFV Road and Track with Swift springs.
-I'm changing my front strut bar to one from Improved Racing with a brace for the master cylinder.
-I installed an HPP brace/cradle for the differential since the case likes to crack.
-I removed ABS last fall and made hard brake lines to replace it.
-I'm changing my brakes, but not too crazy...going to the larger RX-7 RZ brakes with thicker and larger diameter rotors up front and larger diameter rotors in the rear, and probably going to get Carbotech AX6 pads, along with installing ducting plates to the back of the rotors to run cool air to them from the front bumper. I bought APP 2 piece slotted rotors from RHDJapan.
-I'm changing my ECU to a Syvecs S8...it's super expensive, but I believe it'll be worth every penny. I had bought an Adaptronic Select but I had some issues getting it to work with the PLX gauge I bought to display boost, dual EGT and AFR. I'll also be installing either an iPad mini, Galaxy Tab, or some sort of CarPC in the stereo double DIN so I can link it to the new ECU and display gauges, and I'll also be able to change boost and traction control with it.
-Fall of 2013 I changed my gauge cluster and custom installed Speedhut and my SPA dual gauges into the stock cluster. Unfortunately I lost cruise control with this change, but a friend is going to make a circuit board for me so I can have it back. I'm trying to clean up the interior and simplify it as much as possible instead of being cluttered with so many gauges.
-Early 2014 I changed my ebrake handle and shift knob. I had them etched with a turbo rotor design, the same one that's on my Speedhut Tach. And I'll be getting a horn button made with the same design. At some point I also changed to a Nardi Deep Corn steering wheel. I have a suede one and a perforated leather. I like the suede one more, but I don't want to ruin it and I've already worn it so much, so I use the perforated leather one now.
-When I had the dash out in the fall of 2013 I washed and rebuilt my AC and heater core boxes, washed the ducting and sealed the edges with foam, and removed the passenger side airbag.
-I'm changing my coils to AEM IGN-1 smart coils and a custom mount that I made to fit near the stock location, and changing to NGK 7420 10.5 heat range spark plugs.
-I modified the radiator mounts a couple times, and also installed a universal condenser and I'm installing AC again, and I installed heat again too.
-I made ducting for the oil coolers and VMIC, but I'm going to be changing that again.
-I rattle canned the engine bay a few years ago, and I just had a buddy repaint it last Fall.
-I added Turblown engine studs and a Garfinkle oil pan brace.
-I installed an oil catch can made by Adam Griffith, another RX-7 owner.
-Adam Griffith also made some seat rails that I bought. They mount directly to the floor and will hold a side mount seat. I need to make some headroom so I can fit with a helmet so I'm planning to get some Cobra Suzuka Pro GT seats to put in those seat rails.
-In 2012 I swapped from an ACT clutch to an Ogura Racing twin plate clutch.
-In 2013 my Tweakit idler pulley failed when the bearing seized and the pulley shot off and bounced down the road near my buddy's Rousch 429 that was following me lol. I installed a Pineapple Racing idler pulley after that. Been good so far.
There are some small things I didn't list, but I've put enough already. I'll try to add some pics but I'm limited because I'm deployed again and I only have so many with me. Here is a link to my build thread on our local forum. WAY more information there.
I'm trying to post some current pics but I think my laptop is bugging, it's not working for me.
Update: 19 June 09I finally got my car back from the body shop, over a month after I return from deployment. That was a horrible idea dropping it off t... Show morehere. The front bumper support and core support were damaged and then they tried to play it off like it was there when I left it. It wasn't even close to finished when I returned from deployment (Zico is not to blame for any of this mind you, he left right after I did). I ended up doing some of the body work myself. The paint is OK and it really needs to be wetsanded again and rebuffed. I'm still reassembling everything. I can't even put the front bumper on until I get the new core support welded in. I will never take anything back to that shop and those that are still there are no longer my friends, least of all the owner, Sean. He's as crooked as they come. I've put some more stuff on since I took these pics on 19 June. I'll post finished pics later. I need to change the settings on my camera or something, it looks alot better in person, and alot wider too. Show Less
Update: 9 Aug 09I got the new 500R-SP turbo kit from A-Spec and put that on. I also put on the Xcessive Motorsports equal length lower intake manifold ... Show more(LIM), a CJ Motorsports fuel kit (the rails actually rub each other in one spot but I'm working on that), an air pump deletion pulley from Tweakit Racing, the RE Amemiya Pro diffuser (replica) from Shine Auto Project, and because of the new LIM pushing all the manifolds forward about an inch, I had to get a different oil filler neck so that will be going on as soon as I get it haha. I still have to install water injection, the Kenne Bell boost-a-pump, the door panels (now I discover that I'm missing one of the weather seals that goes under the door panels, thanks again Street Dreams!), and some other stuff.
