Please feel free to check out project Halfbreed Cobra as well..
Well i REALY hate to say it but the plug was pulled from... Show more this project. it hurts being so close but such is life. with the purchase of a house, and halfbreed an up and running toy the t bird got the axe. some parts made it into halfbreed while the tbird was sold off. once we have settled in and built a garage i plan on resurecting the project, as specially if something happens to the mustang.
SO...the cats somewhat out of the bag. i figured out with it. the car is getting a 4.6 DOHC Modular engine (to end up as a teksid blocked 03-04 cobra engine) and tremmec T56 6 speed cobra tranny...updates will come with progress and time...
Yep...it sure is... ;)
OKAY..well, sad to say ive been avoiding the car. i put maybe 100 miles on it all year since the winter photos below. i have decided somewhat on what direction to head in with the car. i feel a little guilty about leting it sit and neglecting it. i havnt even washed or wax it all year. at the same token i knew that almost certainly id be freshening up the paint somehow, short of a complete paint over. the general consensus is to keep it black. i agree somewhat. nothing looks as nice as black when its all shined up. nothing looks as crappy when it isnt. black shows and magnifys imperfections. ill at least keep part of it black for the time being. i may go with a silver ish grey strip from the moulding down and freshen up the black on top. i might bring that silver all the way up over the moulding to follow the body line and sepperate the black and silver with a thin red stripe. i may also nix the silver and go with a blue instead much like my sport on the second page. not sure yet though. anywho, i have finally started my parts aquasition (look above). ive got a nice little stack of goodies in my bedroom wating. i will be modding the car in phases. phase one was the 5 speed conversion and feeling the car out for its weak spots. this brings me into phase 2. the suspension and some chassis work. those photos and follow up will come with the completion of phase 2. untill then i plan on restructuring this damn page, yeah...this is it.
awsome, tried to update and it deleted the whole original page. well, to make a long story short, here is my 1988 tunderbird sport. i lucked out. its in great shape for such an old car. in the past ive had a few of these cars. in fact, the first car i ever had was an 87 tbird. when i saw this one, i couldnt pass up the deal. i got it very cheap. the pics are of when i picked it up, taken with a camera phone.
plans for the tbird are still on the drawing board as of right now. it will remain a V8 car with plans of forced induction, 5 or 6 speed oriented for mostly the street. finally, and most importantly i have a car that i dont have to rely on as a daily driver. this was usually the problem with any build i got involved in. now down time on the car is not an issue. anyway, ill update and put more time into this later when i have some good pics and a little more time. thanks for viewing...john
here she sits, filthy but humble. i got boared and tossed on the hood i bought and the rims and tires i had for sale. i never cared for the turbo coupe rims but the tires were new and i must admit they do look and handle better. i may actually take the time to restore them to new now. the new nose still needs to be sanded and jambed up and the rest of the car prepped for paint this spring. the T5 is in and the 5 speed conversion is complete. i ended up using the HO upper and lower intake, TB, AC delete, fenderwell cold air intake, headers and exaust. the long block gave me a bad feeling having a bad skip and i figured id play it safe rather than rebuilding and engine and keep the SO knowing it runs mint. i must admit though, even though the 5 speed made the car much more fun im getting a little boared with the SO. i think i will end up setting at least a HO in there this spring to keep me happy untill the final decisions are made and all the new engine stuff can be purchased and assembled. the exaust i put on it is basically a band aid for the time being. its now true dual exaust with factory mustang tube headers, gutted (dont tell the smog police ;) h pipe, flowmaster 40s and some realy special custom, home made tailpipes heh heh...
in the snow :( and as of now. at least i now have her at home with me ;)
Here are some pics of the completed 5 speed swap.
i got boared again and painted the intake.
i decided that since they will be replaced by the turbo coupe header and bumper cover i have i would experiment with the stock sport nose. the car will be painted this spring/summer. instead of a complete paint job we will paint from the moulding down grey (lighter than what i experimented with) and the chrome strip in the moulding will be painted blue (i realy like it). the rest or the cars paint will be wet sanded and cleared with the rest of the paint. i think it will look good. after the car is complete it may still get a complete paint job. i painted the grille black to match the car a little better for the time being. im not a big fan of chrome. EDIT: the drivetrain is currently in the car right now. if someone wants it all ill pull it but im not going too part it untill i have everything i need for my particular swap. once thats 100% ready to go ill be more than happy to part everything out as it will be gutted out of the car anyway. i prefer to keep the car running right now because it still needs too be moved around the yard and will save me towing it around from shop to shop as well. thank you for your time and have a delightfull day.....john
