NEW YEARS trip 2005/06
went out to LANDCRUSIER MOUNTAIN PARK near jimna in QLD for the rocky's first real trip since the rebuild.
with the rear diff now... Show more welded the only thing that could stop the whore was breakage... and break it did. first thing it broke was the rear shock absorber. Then on the way back to camp i heard a loud knocking noise coming from underneath me. It turns out that on of the front u bolts had shaken loose and stripped the thread leaving the front half of the bolt plate dangling down. the car was fixed "bush mechanic" style and i left it till monday so i could still limp it home. about 10 mins from home and a bang i could start to feel a small vibration building in the car. after stopping at a set of traffic light i couldnt get over 20km/h without the vibrations throwing the car off the road. my first thoughts were of another collapsed pinion bearing however once home i discoverd that i was missing 2 bolts n nuts of the drivshaft. i simply went down to the local bolt shop n got them replaced. too easy
i fixed the rear shock be removing it for the trip home to prevent further damage, and taking it down to the local shop for a prognosis. teh repaired it by removing what was left of the old pin and welding on a higher grade bolt.
the front ubolt only had a bees dick thread left on it and a 30mm space to fill. i scrounged around to find 2 bigger nuts and 2 old shock absorber bushes. i had to go to the park ofice and get 2 more nuts to fit on the thread that was left on the ublolts. heres is how it turned out
