Lots been done since last update. It's late so I'll post later! Still very much alive and kicking though
April 20, 2008 SHE LIVES!!!!!! Got everything buttoned back up last night and fired her up. The only thing we missed was tightening a PS line. Not even a c... Show moreheck engine light! She purrs like a kitten. She takes a bit to get started though, but I think that's because the gas in her is 2 years old. I took her to the gas station and put some in, so hopefully that will help, but sometime this week I'll swap the fuel filter and hopefully she's good. Also, I think the Tstat decided to stick open after a few laps around the block, but that's $5 and 5 minutes, so no biggie. Dang, it feels good to have her finished! This is my 1990 Turbo Grand Prix. I got it (along with a ton of parts) from a friend in a trade for my 94 Jimmy. It cleaned up nicely, and aside from getting the engine running after sitting for 2 years, and replacing the trans, this thing should be back to normal quite soon!April 14, 2008Engine is back in, but I haven't had time to really do much else. I pretty much just need to reconnect everything; wires, hoses, belts, etc. I have a 4 day weekend coming up, so hopefully that'll give me plenty of time to get her back together and maybe be able to enjoy her a little before the move back to Michigan. Most likely just going to tow her back, since she'll have been back together for less than two weeks at that point, so more of a precaution to not get stranded for something I overlooked or wasn't aware of. Besides that, I can stuff her full of my junk that I have to take back! More updates as soon as she's back together.March 19, 2008Haven't updated very much because she sat in the driveway under a cover for most of the winter, but a few weeks ago I finally got around to pulling the engine and tranny out with the help of a friend, and she currently sits in the garage with no engine. The next week or two will basically be me getting some new parts, cleaning all I can, and preparing for reinstalling the engine/tranny. It'll be sometime in april, as I'm moving back to michigan in may, so hopefully by then she'll be back up and running.Oct 30, 07 Nothing new really, other than the "bad" alternator was my stupidity, and that it was just left unplugged! So the engine has been proving to be incredibly reliable so far, as the last few times I've started her up/driven her short distances, I've had no SES lights or low coolant lights like I did before. I checked out the spare trans, and it looks like it'll be a good substitute for a while until I go 5 speed, but other than that I just need the time and help to get this other auto in.Oct 2, 07 She still runs great, but I think the alternator is on the way out. I have a spare, so I'll check that out later this week. Going to check on some prices for shops to do the tranny swap, but hopefully I can do it here given a good free weekend.Sept 25, 07Changed the CPS over the weekend, and she purrs like a kitten! Transmission has no first gear, but hopefully next weekend I'll swap it out with one sitting in the garage. She's coming along quite nicely, I must say. Show Less
05-24-09 So, I finally got rid of both of the other cars and settled to have one decent vehicle. I really missed my old lifted Jimmy, so I kept my eyes peele... Show mored for a decent ZR-2, and luckily enough, I found one that already had the goodies I wanted to add. I picked it up for roughly $5500 ($4000 my cutlass that had lots of problems). She's been great so far, not a single problem. The only thing wrong is that the ABS light is on, but I assume that's from the larger wheels/tires/lift. I let the torsion bars down a bit, so she sits pretty nicely now, but I need to replace the ball joins all around next time I get a chance. The only "mods" I've done so far are to add a decent stereo with my amp and sub, and I took out the aux tape player and put in a plate with a headphone jack to the aux input of the stereo. Also, yesterday I painted the mirrors body colored, intsead of the craptastic chrome plastic stuff. I have no real mods planned just yet, although I do want to do something with the taillights, but i haven't decided yet. Stick around, Hopefully this summer will bring some changes! Feel free to give any/all input, as I have lots of time and energy that I can put in! heres my jimmy from a few years ago: Show Less
The Cutlass is dead at the moment. That's right, I think I blew the engine. I'm pretty sure my water pump went out and I threw a rod, but I haven'... Show more;t had a chance to start tearing it apart yet. Don't worry, I'm not getting rid of it. As soon as I figure out what is wrong for sure I'm going to start working on fixing it. If I do have to get a new engine, I'm going to find a decent LQ1 and do some work to it while it's still out of the car before dropping it back in to hopefully gain a few more of the horses it was really meant to have. For now, I'm picking up an '86 s-10 blazer that will get me from place to place while I save up the money for when I have time for the Cutlass. For now, you'll have to enjoy her beauty in the pictures I have, and once I start work on tear down I'll be sure to get pictures of that.
These pictures are the most recent I have, from about a month ago. She's pretty, and was a lot faster when these were taken.
Some from a month or so earlier this summer
The car has been great. Added the FFP dogbone, K&N air filter, new plugs, wires, visor strip redone finally, in the process of removing the bump strips from the sides. New top this summer, as well as hopefully suspension and exhaust.
Here's a picture of the passenger side with the bump strip removed (drivers side is coming off tomorrow, it got dark too quick to do that one too tonight)
Timing belt successfully replaced and everything running well. She's now being stored for the remainder of winter. I absolutely cannot wait til I can pull her out of my driveway again!
No belts and not timed!
"My" basket of parts, complete with plugs, wires, and all sorts of other goodies that cost me $175 I really didn't have!
Engine shot from fall before the belt pooped out
Another garage shot from the belt project
