This is what it looked like when we got the truck.
See below for a quick description of the truck when we picked it up. It was and still is in need of some TLC. We were given the truck after it had sat for a year or so and rusted. It needed a new gas tank before it would even start.
While our mechanic was taking care of that, I had him cut off the snowplow mount. That was the first mod I made, lol.
The 2nd was the removal of the vinyl on the sides. I didn't like it at all, and felt like it aged or dated the truck. It came off very easily, and except for a couple of spots on the fenders where the metal beneath was already rusting, there was no damage. I buffed it and polished it really well and it is nearly impossible to see where the vinyl once was.
But the fenders did have some rust spots, in fact the driver's side had a large hole in it.
I found a set of fender flares made by EGR that worked really well and covered up the rusty spots. I did sand and paint the rust with Rust Bullet prior to covering them up, so that should stop or slow the rusting down. I also sealed it up pretty well with some RTV in the inside, to hopefully keep the water out.
I had to replace the headlights, as one was bad. I decided to get a set of mock-projectors off ebay. I just wanted something a little different.
I DID NOT KNOW THEY WOULD BE BLUE! I HATE the blusish-ness of them. But I'm not going to pay to replace them right now. The dumba$$ ebay seller shipped me one set, and one light arrived broken. I contacted him and he made a claim with the freight company. They paid it, but in the mean time (3 or 4 weeks) I had to just wait. He didn't send out a replacement light until he had money in hand from FedEx. Idiot. THEN the 2nd set he sent also arrived with one light broken. So out of the 4 lights he shipped, only 2 are usable.
I needed a new rear bumper, as the one on the truck had rust holes in it. It wasn't until I had found and bought one from a junkyard and was taking off the old one that I realized how bad it really was. There were huge holes in it, and other areas that were so rusted beneath the chrome, that when you pushed on it, your hand would go right through. About 1/3 of the bumper was bad. In fact as I was pulling the old one off, I ended up cutting my hand so bad I needed 6 stitches.
I added an exhaust tip, just a bolt on. It's a little too big, but whatever.
I have replaced plugs and wires. Done a LOT of cleaning, buffing, waxing and polishing.
I added an inexpensive set of foglights to the front. I modded the open space on the inside of the turnsignal lights to accept the foglight. I like them.
These photos are old, and are not what the truck looks like now.
When I was taking all the vinyl off, I took off everything on the tailgate in NISSAN except the SS, kind of as a joke. It is all completely off now.
6/15/06 -- After driving a V6 Ford Contour since 1998, I finally could not fix it or pay to fix it anymore.
I just got up this pick up. I grew up with a truck in my family and have always missed having one.
It is a 1995 Nissan hardbody 4 x 4. Has the 2.4L inline 4 engine. After a small V6 sedan, it feels a little sluggish, but I like it. I have always liked the looks of this truck, especially the front end.
We were given this truck. It had been sitting for at least 6 months. The gas tank had rotted out. It had a snowplow mount on the front.
That was my first mod, getting rid of the broken snowplow mount. I have no need of a snowplow.
Better photos to come this weekend, when I get a chance to give it a REALLY good clean in and out!
I already have some plans for it.
I have some mesh grill inserts that will go in tomorrow. I also have some cool badges that will go on. It also needs a new headlight, so I will replace those.
I'm going to take some of the vinyl off the sides, and check the paint condition beneath it. If the colors are close I will take the vinyl off. I don't really like it. If it will leave big discolored and obvious areas, I will have to leave it.
