This is a rare 81 Turbo Trans Am that I aquired from a friend after the engine blew up. He had only driven it a week when it happened. It had the T-Tops, WS6... Show more handling package and full power interior.
The body had a nice restoration done on it in the mid 90's so all it really needed was a good cleaning and a fresh motor. I thought about dropping in a 400 or 455 but decided to stay with a 301 Turbo again. I had no idea how hard it would be to find parts for this motor. Almost everything had to be custom ordered and it got expensive very fast.
After I found a good block I had it bored .060, fitted it with new HP Turbo Pistons, ported and pollished the heads and rebuilt the turbo charger. I also added a shift kit and some chrome on the engine. These improvements greatly helped the somewhat mild 200 hp engine hold its own on the street. It also had free flowing exhaust and open air cleaner to help push more air through the turbo. Nothing turns heads like a nice older TA. Show Less
This is a 1987 Trans Am GTA that I bought just out of HS. It had the LT1 350 which was basically stock. The car was super clean and still had the factory war... Show moreranty on it, which was good because it went through 2 trannys in less than a year. The second one didnt even last a week which is pretty bad since the engine was only rated at 210 hp. It was a beautiful dark brown with gold metalic. The insurance was very high for a kid my age at the time as well as the cost of the huge tires. When winter came around I knew I needed to get something more suited for the snow! I wish I still had it!!I think that Trans Ams are so much more sporty looking than the plain looking Camaro. On the next page is information and pics of my rare 81 Turbo TA.
