"Jerry & Mary's 1956 Chevy pickup short bed step side"
We purchased this truck on April 24,2007.
I have made a site for the truck and you ... Show morecan see it here.
Below left we had to trailer the truck about 50 miles home. Below right you can still see the 4 sale sign.
Below left trying to back the truck up into the drive way. The gas looks like mud and the fuel filter looks like is has 20 day old coffee in it. Below right, ahh got it in the garage finally.
Below left, view under the hood. Eek, maybe you can see the fuel filter in this photo. Below right you can see the battery holder is so rusted it looks like it will drop the battery any minute.
Below left, tail gate and rear bumper look pretty good. Below right, the cab is a nightmare but looks fair in this photo.
Below left a closer view and some of the rust starts to show up. Below right, The truck looks pretty good sitting in the garage.
Below left and right. As you can see the fuel tank has not rusted through and is not leaking. The inside is covered with 29 years of storage rust. I'm going to install a new tank. I know sometimes the budget is kind of tight so here is what I would have done 30 years ago to save some bucks. You can put a three foot long piece of tow chain in the tank and spend a lot of time shaking it up. It will eventually clean up. It works like a tumbler, if you have any way of tumbling the tank just put lots of small stones in it. Lots of work but it will save a pretty bad tank if it has not rusted through.
Below left our new gas tank. Below right the new sending unit.
Below left me installing gas tank.Below right sister Christi helping me.
Below left Christi and me. Below right I'm working on the brakes. I need to keep the truck running while I work on it.
Below left first day of pool May 07. Jerry and Sir Anthony (our dog). Below right: yard is starting to get spring color. Mary is hiding below the tree.
Below left fender just coming off. Below right Mary and Christi giving me a hand.
Below left and right the bed had some old rusted diamond plate in it. Going to take it down to nothing pretty quick.
The photos below were uploaded 06/0/07 on the left you can see the frame area with the bed off. I have to do the rear end carrier bearing seal and install the road gears in the rear end. The photo on the right shows a little bit of the bed. Juat some sanding and primer needed on it for the most part.
