Some of the issues I wanted to address first were saftey related.
New wiring was first on my list. I went with a complete harness from American Autowire. Thi... Show mores was my first harness installation. It went fairly smooth. Directions were very good but not Nomad specific in all respects. Man you have to be a contortionist to work on these cars.
So, next on the list was front disc brakes. I bought a kit from East Coast Chevy (the ones made in USA). At this point I also ditched the stock 14 inch rims. Put Torq Thrust II's and BF Goodrich radials on in their place. Need to make my car cool & safe to cruise with my friends!
I also replaced the master cylinder with a dual resevoir type. Repalced front brake lines. Used the pre bent lines. MC and lines were also from East Coast Chevy. New MC interfered with the tall valve cover hold down T's. Chopped that one down and cut a straight blade screw driver notch in it. Just a temp. fix till I found shorter valve cover hold down T's.
Next on my list was to tackle the header/exhaust system.
I wanted full legnth headers. All the ones I re-searched hung down to low. I finally choose Flowtech's Afterburner headers. After sandblasting them I painted them with two coats of POR's silver header paint. Theese headers tuck up real nice but the frame horns were totally in the way! Sooooooo, I chopped the frame horns off with a sawsall and cutoff wheel. Let me tell you that was no pinic while laying on your back under your car on jackstands in a tiny garage. Wasn't very thriled with the POR header paint. I cured the headers like they recommended by running the engine X amount of time and they started bubbling and peeling within a two week period!!! To much work for those results! Show Less
This is my project 57 Nomad. I have owned this car for 3 years being the 3rd owner. I bought it on ebay. I know what your all thinking, YIKES!! I was assured... Show more that if after I inspected it, if I did not like what I saw it would be re-listed at no charge to me. Sounded fair, so off to West Virginia I went! Brought it home the next day.
The car as I purchased it.
It has a 283 with Edelrock intake and 600 cmf carb.Original heads. Tranny is a leaking 350TH out of a Monte Carlo. Previous owner installed a Rack & Pinon. I am not totlaly sure I like the rack. It definatly lost some turning radius. The wiring was orignal.
It has an original hood that hs been filled and louvered! I love it!! Show Less
