Here are some Illusion audio nd6 midranges that I used to have. These are very good sounding mids. I didn't use these long because I was gonna use them ... Show morefor dedicated midranges, but ended up gett'n the Audiom 6w's.
Here's a side view of the nd6's. Very good build quality for mids. Notice the screw terminals
Here is a Variovent from dynaudio. These are used to lower a system's Q, and helps freq response in small enclosures. I'm gonna use these in the rear of my new kicks to help smooth out response.
Madisound recommened 1 per every cu. ft. I'll update how it sounds after I'm done with the new kicks.
Here's my Audiom 6w midranges. At first glance, they look very similar to the utopia 6w2 midranges that come with the 165w set. I plan on running these in my 3 way setup from 400hz-4000hz.
If you look closely, the surround on the edge is made of a different material, its very thin and light weight. The cone is also alil thinner than the regular utopia mid.
Ooh the shiny magnet on the back is quite pretty. Too bad we can't really show off our mids.
Here is a set of the Rainbow Pro Extreme Kickbass 6.5" set. These are the aluminum dome version of the Rainbow Pro set, and the midbass is specifically designed for midbass performance. They recommend it to be highpassed at 80hz, but I have ran them lower with no problems.
There the back end of the midbass is different from the regular rainbow pro, it has an opening in the rear.
Here's a closer shot of the tweeter and side view of the mid. I installed these in my g/f's Honda Accord and they sound very clean. The midbass is very detailed and punchy. I only have a 50x2 amp on them, but will connect a more powerful amp to compare the sound. I will have pics of her install up soon.
This is the beginning of my 2nd set of kickpanels for housing a dedicated midbass woofer. I plan on using Illusion audio ND8's because of their shallow mounting depth. Show Less
I just wanted to post some pics of Demitrios' Arc/Rainbow setup that I recently listened to. Its one SWEET ride...
Here's a shot of his Rainbow Ref... Show moreerence 6.5" set in kicks. I'm not sure whether they were closed back or sealed. He was using an Eclipse deck with slide out screen.
And here's the right kick, in the shiny dark purple finish. When I heard this set, the bass was very full sounding and punchy. The presentation of the soundstage was wide and smooth. I cranked it up and it got loud, but never sounded strained, and with no hint of harshness.
A close up shot of the right kick.
And here's the left kick.
This is his left side of the trunk with a 2100cxl custom mounted. This amp supplies power to just the tweeters. You can also see an embeded capacitor and cdchanger in his rack.
Here is the right side, with another 2100cxl powering the mids. Also another cap and dvd player rest on this side.
This is a shot of the middle, with the spare tire. If you look closely, you'll see that the Reference crossovers are mounted below the spare. At first, they look like little amplifiers.
Here is one of his Rainbow Pro subs. There is one on each side, powered by the Arc 2500cxl. I've heard a lot of subs, and these subs had very transparent bass, and blended very well with his front stage. Nice and tight sounding, and got loud when pushed. Overall his system was one of the best I've heard. Show Less
