So far, just a K&N filter and 2003 Aero sway bars. The K&N has helped shorten the turbo lag. But on hot days, the lag is still very noticable.
Does... Show moren't the new bar look smaller than the old one?!?! It was the perspective of the lens. Actually the '03 Aero bars only 1mm thicker in the rear and 2mm thicker in the front than the old. (Update: After the front sway bar was mounted, I noticed the turn in when cornering seemed to be quicker.)
Front rotors and pads need to be replaced. So, just got some Brembo grooved rotors and Satisfied pro ceramic pads for the front. We'll see how they work in a few weeks. Show Less
This is my 2000 SAAB 9-5. It's bone stock. I like the understated exterior styling. I dig sleeper cars. It's what's underneath the h... Show moreood that counts. The engine is a turbocharged 2.3 liter inline 4 that makes about 170HP and 207 lb/ft of torque. It's mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. Those specs are nothing special, but the 207 lb/ft of torque is available from 1800-3500 rpm. That's a very useful range. Acceleration is great in 3rd and 4th gear. Slight turbo lag in first. Ride is solid and easily gets over 30 mpg on the highway. Can't say that about too many European cars. The Harmon Kardon sound system is pretty good too. Not much low end bass, but I'm not really into that anyways.
I wouldn't really call my new Falken tires a modification. They are the ZE 512 in 215/55/R16 93V size and rating. So far so good on grip and road noise. (Update: Since have replaced them with Pirelli Nero M S 225/50/R16, which lasted 32K miles. They had excellent grip and wet weather handling. The Pirelli's were replaced by BF Goodrich G-force sports 215/55/R16 which are currently on the car.)
One of my headlamp bulbs blew out. So, I just replaced the stock halogen bulbs with RAZO "Premium White" H7 headlights. A vast improvement in visibility over the stock halogen lamps. (Update: The RAZO's lasted only a few months, when back to stock halogen bulbs)
So far, I've upgraded the rear and front swaybar to 2003 AERO spec and installed a K&N filter. I do notice less body roll and the filter does seem to help the turbo spool a little quicker, lessening the turbo lag. (Update: 2004 Aero air intake tube replaced the stock intake tube) In the future, I'd like to upgrade the springs to 2003 Aero specs, Speedparts or Saab factory ECU upgrade, remus exhaust and short shifter upgrade.
The shifter feel to this car one of the few things I don't like. It's feels like there's some play when you're in gear and has a rubbery feel when shifting. I hear the short shifter upgrade takes care of that. I think the BBS RK rims are nice and 2003 Aero wheels look nice too.
Headlights after installing the RAZO "Premium White" H7 lamps. Too bad they didn't last very long. The 9-5's been eating light bulbs for lunch. Show Less
