Today was my first trip to the dyno. A local VW club set it up and a few guys from the saabcentral.com board knew about it so that's how word of it got t... Show moreo me. I thought it might be fun and a good chance to see what other guys (and girls!) are doing with their cars. It's also cool just meet up with new people and talk shop.
Just my luck, I get to go right after a sick Jetta from New York put down *yoink!* 291 WHP... anyway, my best run of three put me at 201 WHP and 215 lb. feet of torque. So if you figure 15% drive train loss, that puts me around where? 235 at the crank? Not too bad, but upon thinking about it, I should be a little higher for the mods I've got. Can't complain though. Pretty good for my daily driver and grocery getter! Show Less
My turbo was starting to leak oil into the exhaust. Seals were beginning to go. Greeeeeaaaaaat. Fortunately, I have a good mechanic (I would have loved to tr... Show morey this myself, but I was short on time and needed it done right the first time) and my TD04 turbo I'd though I'd have to wait the better part of year to put in was all set to go to take the aging T-25's place.
After a few days at the shop (Swedish Performance in Branford, CT) the TD04 is in! The new turbo needed to have lines fabricated for it using fittings other than the banjo type (wicked expensive from Saab). A&N connectors were used as well as braided hose. Everything worked out fine and cost about $175 less than what Saab would've charged me for their parts. The TD04 is louder, produces more torque, pulls harder at the top end, and makes the car feel more powerful in general.
Above to the left you can see the improved apperance of the engine compartment with the new custom intake piping and to the right the shiney, new turbo. It is much bigger than the old one.
Below to the left you can see a close-up of the tight squeeze that the silicone elbow has to deal with and to the right, a close-up of the straight line fittings that replaced the old banjo fittings. They should help increase oil and coolant flow over the older fittings as well??an extra added bonus.
Thanks for looking at my car and if you have a minute, please sign my guestbook! Show Less
