interior is in decent shape, mostly navy and black and was redone at some point in the 80's, dash has no cracks. a grant gt steering wheel is the only af... Show moretermarket you'll see in the cabin, stock shift knob on the 5 speed gearbox and no stereo.
It has stock seats at the moment, but I have some old recaro lx seats with 200sx brackets which I will install after they get re-covered. if I'm able to see my plans all the way through, the chassis will be reinforced with a tubular steel roll cage.
I stripped out the hatch, cleaned it up, straightened out and re-taped the wiring. I have plans to fabricate front and rear support bars for the shock towers. for the time being you can still see the original datsun light blue color inside the hatch, I may decide to paint it black.
the lower front of the passenger doorskin had suffered some damage prior to my getting the car and looked and rather unsightly. I had considered repairing the door but that was starting to look like a lot of work and still might not yield the results I desired.
it was no small miracle that I was able to source a passenger door off of an 83 coupe to replace it. amazingly, the color is as close to a match for the respray as you could ask for, and in very nice condition. notice how this door came with no side mirror? perfect for the addition of fender mirrors later.
the door fit and lined up with minimal coaxing, that is until I tried to roll up the window. coupe and hatch doors are the same, save the shape of the window glass. after swapping the glass between the 2 doors it rolled up and shut just fine. I had to massage the front fender just a little to get it to line up as close to perfect with the new door as I could. Show Less
10/11/06 update - some of you who have visited in the past may remember that in my last update I picked up a set of hoshino impuls (p.5), well I've been ... Show morereally back and forth but now I'm back to rockin the ssr reverse mesh!
Since the car is not CA smog exempt, I've started looking more towards a KA motor swap - atleast temporarily - I figure even a single cam KA would be fairly easy to make power in this car - along with the fact that there's a good chance I could legally smog it, after taking it to the state ref.
I've also made a few trips to the local pick n pull, treasure hunting, and happened upon a couple of gems! - off of an '81 s110 coupe, I scored a new nose piece in perfect condition! (the metal trim that runs under the grille and the headlights)- I also got metal front bumper trim pieces to replace my old, beat up ones.
the 15x8 14's are a little too wide for the stock front hub position and they made light contact with the shock -I installed some small, 3mm, hub spacers and they worked like a charm! - I also found that the 15x7.5 -5's fit in front without rubbing and sit very flush - maybe I'll pick up another pair in that size and run them all around, what do you think?
in the near future I'm looking to do a lot and accellerate my progress! - I've already test fitted my recaros and made a couple modifications so the wedge brackets would bolt up properly - looking to get them reupholstered soon, along with paint & bodywork - and possibly some interesting headlight mods, all to come! here is an image, albeit not a very good one, of my naps z20e motor. it was rebuilt by the previous owner and runs well considering the car sat for 10 years ... Show morebefore I aquired it. it has a more aggressive cam, is bored out to 2.2 on the original block, and has minor headwork. the Z series motors are very similar to the L series sohc but feature a twin plug design and the naps low emissions head. as time and money allow, I plan to swap a newer rwd nissan turbo motor into it. I had considered s110 motors originally available to nissan's japanese market, but it is very difficult to find a z18et or fj20e motor on this continent.
the drivers side rear quarter panel had some damage which I worked on a bit, in this picture you can hardly tell that I popped out a large dent. one day it will be left in the hands of a professional to make the factory sheetmetal smooth and straight all around the car.
some other modifications are a tubular header, exhaust system, and aftermarket clutch. the north america version of this vehicle (with the exception of mexico's s110 sakura) has electronic fuel injection, 4 wheel disc brakes, an electronic warning system, available power windows/mirrors and other features which made this car ahead of its time.
here is a picture I took while replacing the front bumper shock absorbers. one was depressed making the bumper sit uneven when looking at it from above. there is a full write up on this process with more pictures in an article (here) on the nissan infiniti car owners club website.
I am currently searching for this style of s110 silvia hood emblem, if you have one or know of one for sale, let me know! well that's all for now, I have lots of plans for my datsun, but I guess you'll just have to wait and see! please leave me a good rating and sign my guestbook on your way out. over time, I'll continue to update this site with pics and information. hope you enjoyed viewing my 1980 200sx!
