I changed up the old restricted exhaust with a Cherry Bomb elite series muffler and some magnaflow stainess tips. The sound and performance was rediculous. B... Show moreefore I ran a 11.5 in the 8th mile at Iowa Speedway in Newton pretty consistant and with just changing the muffler and eliminating the cat I was down to 10.5. Show Less
The engine needs swaped so I want to build a 383 stroker to get a little more ponys under the hood. For right now im taking the 350 4 bolt that I had in the ... Show moreMalibu and tearing it down at school. More than likely right now im just going to be changing bearings, rings, gaskets and going with a new cam and valvetrain.
This is the engine sitting in the malibu. It's a 71 350 4 bolt 010 block all stock.
Well I got the engine at school and it should be going together soon. When I tore into it I found out it was already bored over 30 so i had a 355 and didn't even know it. The bad thing is I couldn't leave it .030 over because i was already at .036 and about .001" out of round and taper. The block is in the machine shop at JR Motorsports getting bored to .040 over so it looks like im building a 358.
I picked up a set of 882 heads with comp cam 1.52 roller rockers for a steal which should help me out a litte getting rid of those smog heads.
When I measured the crank it was already ground 10-10 and it was also out of round .001" and had .001" taper so I went to have it reground to 20 20 and the snout was all fuct up so the crank is junk.
The Engine is done finally heres the finished product and some pictures of when i was building it.
I painted the oil galley so the oil will run down and not build up sludge on the block. Just a little trick I picked up on to help the engine last a little longer.
I did the same with the heads as well for the same reason.
I tore the 882's down that I bought and found that the guides were pretty worn out. I got lucky because DMACC had a nurling tool to resize the guides so I did all of them along with re-cutting all the valves and grinding the seats.
I ran out of time when I was doing the heads so I only did one angle on the exhaust valves(45) and 2 on the intake valves(45 & 30) Show Less
