Welcome to my newly updated page. This Cavalier's system was designed and constructed to be a sound quality competition vehicle. The day after completing... Show more the install it won 2nd Place at the 2006 IASCA World Championship (Rookie Class). With a little more tweaking and tuning I hope it will be a strong contender for a World Championship in 2007 and beyond.
Here is a before pic of my 2004 Cavalier Sport.
Some other interior pics prior to install beginning.
Now let's gut everything!
My new system was built by Jeff Smith and Calvin Thomas of Audio Designs Atlanta in Stockbridge, GA. If you have a chance check out his web site at www.audiodesignsofatlanta.com.
For the head unit we chose the Alpine DVA-9861 because of it's reputation as a great SQ unit and it's optical outputs.
The front stage speakers will consist of the Hybrid Audio Technologies Legatia 3" mid-range driver and L1 tweeter.
The mid-bass in the doors will be a pair of MB Quart 6.5" QSDs.
The subwoofers will be a pair of Image Dynamics IDQ 12".
Finally the amplifiers used will be from the new Zapco Digital Reference series. A DC750.2 to power the subwoofers, and a DC650.6 (6 channel) to power the front stage. You can check out these awesome amplifiers at http://www.zapco.com/. Show Less
The first thing we wanted to do was to sounddeaden the entire interior of the vehicle (trunk, floorboard, door panels, etc. We used a variety of Dynamat prod... Show moreucts including Extreme Dynamat,Dynaliner, Dynasorb, and DynaFlex. All in all almost 225 square feet of deadening materials were utilized in the install.
As far as the front stage is concerned we chose to untilize the Hybrid Audio Legatia 3" driver due to it's outstanding range (130hz to 10khz!)and off axis response. There is plenty of air space behind the kick panels and they are also vented to the frame rails which is great for the Legatia's because these babies need plenty of air!
Now let's build some kicks and cover them.
Since we mounted the mid-range in the kick panels we decided to place the Legatia L1 tweeters in the A-pillars to help raise and widen the soundstage. They are being crossed over at 8khz and up.
The MB Quart mid-bass will be mounted IB in the doors in custom door pods and crossed from 50hz to 200hz. The pods were formed out of MDF and fiberglass then dipped in alumicoat to give them a custom finished appearance. Show Less
