carl1972monte: Mike, Sorry I did not see your 2 post from a couple days ago. 1st question-you described the lifting of your body with jackstands and lumber. Where did you lift from so that the rolling frame and wheels would not interfere with the jacked up body? 2nd issue (re: paint adhesion problems). I did some of my body work but most I had a friend come up and stay with us for a week here and there. He's a body man by trade. I also had a problem when I stripped the cowl and shot it with Eastwood rust encapsulator and later stuck tape to it, it peeled. This was in the spring so temps were never very cold. My body man said he always strips a small section, cleans it really good with silicon and grease remover, then uses self etching primer. We used from a spray can. Spray a couple light coats and 10-15 minutes later he would spray with urethane primer through a spray gun. He would put on 3 coats, letting each coat dry for 30 minutes. Now my finish painter (a different guy) is lightly re-sanding, washing with some kind of cleaner, and spraying again using an epoxy primer as his base. Then he will spray 2 coats urethane and block down. He is being extra caution and wants to seal the whole car as I had done some sanding and metal work and left some metal exposed or very lightly primed and it flash rusted. 3rd item-The Monte web site is firstgenmc.com. My user name is 1972mc. Did you get the job? Carl...
carl1972monte: Woops-yesterday I posted this comment in my guestbook instead of yours. Thanks for the info. Mine will be more difficult as I've already installed engine/tranny. When I lifted the body off, it was without engine and used old fashined bottle jacks. Have since bought a 3 ton chain hoist and mounted to ceiling picked up from cowl and used engine hoist on tthe back to lift the whole car, but that was just to do the bottom. When she comes back from paint I'll have to lift body high enough to roll freshened chassis w/ engine up under. I tried to get a rottiserrie but no luck. Liked your paint scheme under the car and on rear end. Good luck on the new job!! Carl PS are you in the 1st Gen Monte club? We would love to have your experience as a frame off guy....
