cetroutt: i feel that anything heavier than 5w-30 is to heavy for out little 1.6's. the car has about 200K on it. and the engine has about 70K on it. the only thing i ever had issues with was the head gasket, and that why i'm on my third engine. does your oil preasure light come on and that's why you think you have bad oil preasure? or are you just going off what the mechanic says. why was the car in the shop to begin with? i was thinking about this the other night and i don't think there is anyway for the oil pump to go bad and there not be a terible noise coming from it. i think that 25lbs of preasure is more than enough for your car. you should call a local pontiac dealer and ask how much oil preasure you should have at idle. it sounds like your mechanic might be trying to take you for a ride. i don't want to talk bad about anyone but i don't want to see people get done over by crooked mechanics....
cetroutt: a thicker oil will only mask the problem for a short time. what kind of oil are you running? and the parts come from mantaparts. they're high but they're the only place i've found performance parts for the 1.6. www.mantapart.com...
cetroutt: i've never had any problems with oil presure. how hot is your car getting? you could just need to add some coolant (which takes time) or check the thremostat, if it's not opening completely it can cause you problems. i do know that the oil pump is built into the block. the crankshaft runs it, it's right behing the crank pulley and to get at it you have to pull the engine. however i have found that my car runs extremely cool with the grill gutted. the engine is a storng one if you take care of it. you can run the crap out of it and it will be fine just be sure to change the oil and do the routine maintenence or you will be in big trouble. also the engine is of opel design not daewoo. your car will be a good car for you if you take car of it. it looks like you have a pretty good idea as to what you want done with it. be patient and don't let the haters get you down....
