Hellenic: Dear Martin I will try to answer to you for all of your questions. But first of all let me to express my happiness about this communication! I find really marvellous that two persons so far away, not knowing each other, to have the same interest, and more specifically the so delicious car, the VW VANAGON. Now let me explain few things and answer: 1)My car is a SYNCRO (4x4) which means that its transmission is reinforced to a (minimum) extend compared to the 2 wheel drive model. But for shure there is needed a lot of care trying to drive at moderate accelarations. Again all these are hypothetical since my car is still under construction. My knowledge mostly becomes from Mr. Raptopoulos who is the champion of the year 1993, here in Greece for the 4x4 races, with a TRANSPORTER SYNCRO PORCHE POWERED (almost 350 hp). 2)He told me that the problems he had were mostly from the gears of the first and second speeds and that the shafts and all other staff are o.k.. 3)As I told you on my previous message, my engineer designed and made an elecrtonic oil circulation system in order to keep low the temprature,( within the perfect limits), into the gearbox hoping that this will help. 4)Here in Greece Subaru engines are used a lot on Transporters, (the European truck version for Vanagon), but my personal attitude is that it is a shame for a VW to be powered with any other engine except an engine from VAG group! 5)Specifically my engine is a 2,7 L AUDI A4 250 HP V6 BITURBO, (AGB code),with extra MTM 4th stage kit for 420 hp. 6)Something about electronis:there is needed a lot of work.On my car an Australian HALTEC proccessor promises for much better delivery and easier adjustments. 7)For shure there is a need to upgrade the brakes, but I am not going to do it immediately because I want to see what happens on the road as they are.For the future I would like to put the southafrican ventilated front rotors and propably the oetinger rear discs. 8)As soon as possible I will send you some more fotos from various intresting spots from the car. Cheers Christos. I SEND AT YOUR YAHOO E-MAIL THIS MESSAGE BEFORE 12 HOURS, BUT THERE IS A WARNING MESSAGE THAT THEY CANNOT DELIVER IT!SO I SEND YOU THIS WAY MY ANSWER!...
Hellenic: Hi! I have red your message and I feel happy for your interest! As soon as possible I 'll send you more fotos with various intresting points. For the moment I can say about transmission, which is the most problematic point, that the only thing which I have done, is a try to keep low the valvoline temprature with extra cooler, an electronic sensor and a circulation pump.Of course this does not solve the problems of very high mechanical stress for the axles, gears e.t.c., iside the gearbox. Another thing which I changed, is the problematic synchro gear for the third gear with the one which is given by VW, as well as, the gears for the 3d and 4th drives. But as we know from some races here,(the syncro was the champion for the year 1993 in 4x4 championship in Greece), the serious problem is with 1st and 2nd drives and, for the moment, there are not solutions for these. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU GOT MY ANSWER! YOU WILL HAVE MORE THE SOONEST POSSIBLE! (I FORGOT TOY TELL YOU THAT THE TOTAL PROJECT IS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION) Cheers, Christos. ...
