To answer your questions, I had no problems during my system install and the iPod interface cable is 77" long, which gives you plenty of length to work with. Bare in mind though that the cable will only work with selected Alpine head units and newer generation iPod's. Check out www.alpine.com for further info.
Also just an FYI some Alpine head units are coming equipped with this cable.

it fit in clean and all under $1000. caught a sale at bestbuy for the pioneer unit.
